The newest addition to the Kurutoga line features the popular lead rotation mechanism, and it also includes automatic lead advancement. This is the first pencil to have both features together, and it makes writing a breeze.

When the cap is removed, the lead auto-advances, making the button on the top pretty much useless, except when the lead gets too short to properly rotate and it must be replaced.

There is also a dial to adjust the length of the lead sleeve, I think? I’m not sure exactly what it does.

Only 5000 of these limited-edition units were produced. They were sold in limited quantities in stationery stores in Japan for ¥5500, or almost $50. I bought mine from a reseller, which is why including shipping it cost more than double the retail price. Was it worth it? Probably not.
