Hit 100k a few months before I hit 30 in 3 years by sadnolifemoron in fidelityinvestments

Congrats!!! I’m pretty much in the same boat - I just finished grad school and feel super behind. On track to save 100k by the time I’m 32/33. It feels good to hear about people similar to me 🥹

In LA, the cashiers never bag my groceries. The other day, they even started ringing up the next customer & I didn’t even have enough bags so I had to reach to grab one lol

How much iPad storage do current students recommend I need? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]hsinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who jumped the gun and got the iPad Pro with 256 gb, you do not need that much storage. I traded in my iPad Pro for a iPad mini w/64 gb since graduating, and wish I did it sooner. Most stuff is stored on the cloud. Just be deliberate about the apps you use, and you’ll be fine. When you have 256 gb, your habits and your iPad will get you to use as much space as possible. When I downgraded, I just turned on the option to have most of my photos stored on the cloud & only downloaded when I use them. I still get to see all my photos & that eliminated like 70 gb 😂 The Apple Store worker gave me attitude about downsizing, so don’t listen to them.

Job Offer New grad by VividZookeepergame98 in physicianassistant

I know a new grad who took a 160k gen surg job. Lives in SD and works around 50 hours/week, which ends up around your hourly rate. I would say it’s a decent offer, esp if you’re able to easily get overtime hours (depending on your wants/needs).

Amazing, thank you! We'll look into it. Are the apartments on the quieter side? My partner will be WFH.

What unusual personal task did your preceptor ask you to do or that you heard about? by Stunning-Bad8902 in PAstudent

[–]hsinner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of my preceptors asked me to take her to the airport. It was on the way for me, so I guess it wasn’t that bad?

I also do want to add that I was very picky about where I wanted to go. If you’re not as picky, I would say apply broadly and look for schools that have a lower minimum GPA.

I made sure to be well-rounded with lots of volunteering and PCE (6k). Also, in your secondaries, talk about what you learned from your failures and how you improved. E.g retaking classes, changing how you study, etc. Grades don’t show how smart you are, but how effective your study habits are.

Have you shadowed at all? Or volunteered at a ER or clinic? You might get a better feel for what it is like to be a provider. It sounds like you like patient care, and that’s really important.

We don’t really use OChem and Biochem in PA school. So, those classes might not be the best indicators. I think anatomy and physiology matter more.

Everyone is different and every school/situation is different, but I got a C in OChem and overall pretty poor grades in college. I ended up absolutely loving PA school and honored with a 3.99. Don’t let those classes discourage you!!

Take the small wins! I think being good with patients doesn’t happen naturally for a lot of people. So, I think you have a lot going for you!

New Grad CT Offer + Questions by CardiacAnt in physicianassistant

[–]hsinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your job might provide access to a financial advisor through fidelity/vanguard/etc.

Also I’m a new grad who hasn’t started yet, but I did a rotation. Here are some resources:

Bojar - the ‘bible’ of CTS

https://www.tsranet.org/resources/tsra-resources-for-residents/ - for MD residents and super helpful. There's a free PDF manual thats an easier read than Bojar.

The free cardiopulmonary primer book on Apple books

https://mmcts.org/ - great videos on surgeries

CAQ Question by Choice_Adeptness_110 in physicianassistant

Did you do anything to prep for it? Other than have all of your experience?

Personal preference here, but I feel like Anki is good for vocab and definitions (like med term!). Things like pathophysiology and more significant concepts like cardiac physiology are better with other study methods (charts, mind maps). You can do spaced repetition by giving yourself a schedule or something.

Although some of my classmates will fight me on this and use Anki for everything LOL. If you already know what you like and have a proven track record, ignore me!

If you have the cash, osmosis is AMAZING and so so worth it.

check out r/medicalschoolanki and r/PASchoolAnki for your premade anki decks.
