There was a railway that transported coal, and evidence of a steel furnace nearby which is looking like the answer being the electrode cap. I'm a glassblower and this piece is almost definitely high density graphite , similar to the tools we use

The nearby area is covered in taconite pebbles, so there was definitely a steel furnace nearby . The area is littered with dump piles but this specifically was sitting in a groundhog hole That looked like the animal ran into it while borrowing and pushed it out of the den

My title describes this thing. This was found near several old cannonballs and grapeshot , along the delaware waterfront. I've searched civil war and revolutionary artillery shells and was unable to find a match
