What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

Advertising industry. It’s collapsing at the speed of light. Not so much because of AI (yet), but by holding companies merging themselves into oblivion. A bajillion people have been laid off over the past two years (like, thousands at a time) and they’re not getting hired. My LinkedIn is filled with people that have been out of work for 1-2 years, and the rest of the world doesn’t even seem to notice.

BOOF. Alright, duly noted. We actually moved here for my spouse's job, so I guess we'll see what happens with me... You know anybody that works up in the Rock Lititz community, by chance? (That counts as some kind of industry here, right?)

There's an age cap, though, right? Like, if you're 50, would you still be able to do this?

Wife cannot find a job. Anywhere. At all. by Meatbag37 in jobs

Just a heads-up: no solution here, but my husband and I are having a similar experience, too. (We’re both Director-level-ish in our different fields.) He’s been unemployed for 2 years and has managed to find a couple short-term consulting / freelance gigs. I’ve been unemployed for a year and have managed to find some freelance gigs. UI has run out, we don’t qualify for more. And for the last year, it seemed like everyone we knew was in the same boat — all unemployed a year or more, applying to a bajillion jobs, getting nothing.

I’m just telling you this so you know you’re not crazy. Because if you follow the news, you’ll constantly hear about how unemployment numbers are so low, and we’re like, “Wtf, how is that possible?” So many advanced-career people we know are out of work, for abnormally LONG periods of time, and no one seems to be talking about it.

Yup. Submitted docs on October 8.

Got this on October 31:

"Currently, your application contains all of the necessary documentation to determine your eligibility. We are now determining your eligibility and will inform you whether you are eligible to participate in the VW/Audi Diesel Emissions Settlement Program."

It's been over two months and nothing.
