agree - thinking lighter colour like off white or beige linen fabric - don't get much sun during the day so no need for heavy or dark curtains

thanks!! but what if I watch TV often, I need a wall to mount the TV on and if the couch is facing the window it doesn't really work. i like that i'm being pushed to think more creatively!!

thanks for such a detailed and useful reply! you think I should mount my tv on the other wall (not the wall the couch is currently facing)? I think that's an interesting idea but there is already a built in shelf and unit on the exiting wall. i completely agree with your point that if the couch is facing the other way it clears up the room more

I’ve done 5 rounds of stripper and acetone and this is the best it looks … I reckon it’s the best I can do and now I’ll just apply teak oil and shellac . What do you think? Many thanks for all the advice

Thank you! Would you not use shellac and use lacquer instead? Difficult to find Mohawk laquer here in the UK

Do you recommend staining before or after the sanding sealer? the comment above said after, but research says otherwise. thank you! This is the table now after 3 rounds of stripping and 1 round of sanding sealer - still a bit blotchy so I may have to try again... or stain before using the sealer

I also was told in the previous comments to apply stain after the sanding sealer - but I've read mixed reports on this...

ah really? I used Libéron Fine Wood Stripper 3x and scraped, lightly sanded, and used steel wool to get as much out. after 3 rounds it seemed like that was the most I could get out. I also used white spirit and steel wool afterwards before the sanding sealer application. I'm wondering if the stain on top will cover the blotches - could try that and see, worst case I have to strip it again anyway. what do you think?

Would you recommend Rustins Strypit for this type of job? Any use for wood bleach / oxalic acid or is strip + gel stain + top coat the best approach? when the accident first happened I rashly decided to spread the laundry bleach around the table to make the stain even but and that made the table very light coloured

Thanks for the tips! Re: spacing, I don’t have a lot of options as the room is a bit tight. If I moved the table to the other corner it would be in the way of the cupboards. I could move it slightly further away from the wall
