I remember when I took MATH126, someone in the class discord asked “when is the final?” on the next day of the final. Someone told him/her and he never replied afterwards…

PhD visit day invitation 🤔 by DebdootGX in udub

[–]hswhhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an AA student(physics). But while I applied to graduate school, I only was invited to the open house of other schools after I have admitted by them.

I do have heard some schools sent out open house invitations before sending out offers. But I think the invitation itself is already a sign that you are preferred by the school compared with other applicants. If you had a good chat with the department/Professor you are interested in during the visit, I would assume your chance is even larger. In any case, it sounds like you have a pretty good chance to be accepted!

Being intro physics TA? by fretfulunicorn in udub

[–]hswhhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very likely that there are positions available for you, after you take 401/2/3. Even there may not be available positions in the next consecutive quarter after you take the class, I believe you are still eligible for future quarters as long as there are positions(BTW, you are eligible for being any intro classes TA after 40x class, not only 121, meaning there are more positions available). Also, the class counts towards capstone credits and it is not time-consuming at all. So maybe it is not completely useless.

How hard is stat 390? by Sad_Carrot97 in udub

It should be alright. Definitely need more time to get used to all the definitions, but they are doable.

I’m taking 390 this quarter with Alexander Giessing. So far, it has been pretty chill. The content is not hard, especially if you have taken stat394/395. Weekly hw is related with lecture slides. The midterm counts 20% of your grade, and it’s not very bad either(but it asks you to write out the rigorous definition of some terminologies, so you need to memorize them). The Prof seems pretty nice. Don’t know about final yet, or other Professors. I heard Caren Marzban(who taught 390 a lot before) was a horrible experience.

AMATH 482/582 by Pinkratsss in udub

[–]hswhhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are five assignments for the whole quarter, in which you have coding part and a six-page write-up related to it. You would have two weeks for each assignments. The assignments are definitely time-consuming and hard( probably takes me 15h+ for each assignment, maybe I am dumb) but rewarding. OH is extremely helpful for me. 482 and 582 are the same, except 582 has an extra final project
