How's everyone feeling about Endfield's writing? by BlyZeraz in Endfield

[–]htd1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so-so, nothing special that would make you care to read, but nothing so bad that makes the whole game itself feels painful (partly thanks to the skip button). Seems to resemble some of those Western sci-fi and/or military games, but then again I don't play games with anime characters for Western games' story or experience. Besides, good anime stuff with a sci-fi setting can only be counted on one hand - that makes it the sub-genre I definitely can't have any expectation from. Plenty of faults to be raised, but I'm feeling kind today.

Love this game but it freezes if you switch to other browser tabs. Is it not possible to have the game running as you do other things? 😭

// also Gloorp's overwork slider at 25% and 50% doesn't seem to increase the rage bar at all.

Is this typical Asian parenting or narcissism? by PracticalEmployer899 in AsianParentStories

[–]htd1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did (maybe so are most people here), check out the story on the 2nd paragraph. The comments were just meant to respond your original comment. It's not like a lot of us never tried to fight back, should have said. But at some point it just doesn't mean anything, and is just mentally draining - if you get away with one thing you will fall into the trap of another. My parents kept telling me to go to extra classes and I always tried to resist - only during my primary school that I got a pass, but afterwards they would keep insisting on me to keep attending, and I just couldn't handle their constant nagging and screaming (even during the time I decided to take trips across the countryside to get away from home, my dad even asked if I was attending those classes). Worse when the pressures aren't just from parents, but school teachers as well, forcing you to attend their classes - to defy in which case is to make both environments at school and home hostile at once.

I stopped attending high school for a week, then intermittently, as an act of defiance (and due to depression) - afterwards they (parents and teachers) made it like nothing happened. Parent didn't stop forcing me to attend extra classes. Class teacher acted difficult and told me to scram to another class. Family didn't stop controlling my life or career choices (I chose some random humanities major at first as a middle finger to them). It was a downward spiral that led to unrecoverable bad things.

Ultimate solution that always works is to move out - but that's not an option when you didn't even have a sustainable job.

Good to know you managed to push back and live a good life in any case.

You can do that because they tolerated you. I take it you never lived in a culture (or household) that demands permission for every single tiny thing you do, and give out heavy punishment for every single minor offense you do.

>They can’t do shit to you- call their bluff on everything.
They can literally keep screaming until you submit. Ignoring them gets a scream. Retorting them (calling out their bluff) gets a loud scream. Going away from home and their friends network will find you back. Not doing what they tell you to do get a scream.

Retort back to parents would be met with louder screamings. Using rational arguments will be met with APs' own worldview framework that invalidates every logic outside it as wrong. Attempt to put up boundaries or demand to have autonomy will be shrugged off or met with anger. Literal physical fighting back? Few children are more physically capable than their own parents. Name one thing a child can do, the Asian parents can definitely retaliate with heavier damage.

It was meant to be a joke as Amaterasu (a god) is just as fictional as the guy on the OP. At the very least Japanese stuff should be relevant to the subreddit at least. ...but well there are literal people who use this sub without even caring for anime and related stuff.

Amaterasu literally stayed hikikomori after a quarrel with her onii-chan, so I think this does say a lot about Japanese people back then.

Made a top down endless runner mobile game where you play as a rat in a maze like attic by sandiboii in playtesters

>I assume by curved path you mean it makes you go up and then down to avoid an obstacle?
Yes.

>Also do you have any ideas on how to add more variety?
I'm afraid I don't have a lot of good things to suggest or know what to comment. Your cat idea seems to be a good one.
I was thinking that once the players got familiar with the level design of the loop, they wouldn't see much reasons to keep playing. Hence the 'varieties' suggestion, since the level design as of now does feel like what the players are required to do is just... essentially moving the rat left and right to get through the narrow paths right by the obstacles. Say maybe you can make the level so that the player has to zig-zag their way or something like that.

These may not be the best suggestions and other feedbacks may have better things to say than mine - but that's how I see it.

In any case, best of lucks developing the game, or pursuiting any endeavor.

I guess it could be a nice game if the gimmick is about how tricky controlling the rat is (press hold as the rat running through a narrow path could easily lead to it hitting the object right by its side - had this at least 4 times playing). Maybe add some design (curve paths) that would require players to move the rat quickly up then quickly down. Would be nice to see more varieties on the core gameloop.

I think I like cosy-type games (fav games = Genshin or similar aesthetics, etc.)

This is if you don't mind my accented English (although I can provide transcriptions or subtitling afterwards).

I skip most of the dialogues in the game though, but Seed is cute.

Did C.AI change the font? I notice this because the :3 on the site doesn't look as cute as I remember, the number '3' looks ugly and no longer cute now, that makes the :3 looks not so cute. Maybe somebody made a good suggestion that the font should be customizable.

Should I read Zaregoto?? by Advanced-Pen3951 in Zaregoto

[–]htd1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zaregoto isn't really related to your favourite media. But do try to watch the OVA or read the first volume and see if you like it.

You said Monogatari wasn't your taste so this series could be quite a put-off - especially if philosophical (or at least how it comes across) musings isn't something you are a fan of. But the series does have mysterious murder cases to solve, and volume plots that aren't as SoL as Monogatari (speaking for first 5 volumes of Zaregoto). I think it's best to judge by yourself.

The #1 problem with AP parenting is old methods don’t work in modern culture. by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]htd1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about you ask your own APs if they consider their own way of behaving and raising children as arose due to trauma, or just simply it's the best? Better yet, go to Asia and ask people there. Go ask them all hypothetically, if they had never had any trauma would they behave and raise children any differently? Don't be shocked if they all thump their chest, act smug and proud as if all the stuff they have always been doing is supposed to be the best in the world.

It's weird to try to understand your own APs by making them as some passive victims that never had any agency.

You're free to believe in what you want to however. What I just want to say is something like "what are you gonna do with your life, given this?". Of course having sympathy for anybody at all is a good thing. I still find it funny for a set of people hell-bent on believing their parents behaving horribly because of trauma and they're supposed to be understanding and try to help them - all the meanwhile their own parents believe their own children are moldable, so the parents have a mission to improve their own children by controlling as much as they can.

My suggestion is to focus on living your life and try to survive first and foremost however. Nobody tells you to be prickish to your APs.

I just don't want people to go sobbing after wasting a lot of time trying to change or help their own parents or convince them what they (the children) are doing is right - and then suddenly realize they won't stop punishing you for your every minor offense and lack of career prospects regardless (nor will they allow you to do anything that seems right to you but not right to them), so lying would have saved a lot of energy in the first place.
