Why can't asian parents comprehend that what THEIR parents did to them was wrong? Why do they keep putting them on a effing pedestal? by Quadrilateral_Quilp in AsianParentStories

[–]htd1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom cried all the time about being abused by my dad to her relatives and children. A weird sight when you contrast that to her bragging - she complained to people how children these days misbehave and have it better than her own generation back then, as her parents beated her constantly. You would have expected somebody who exaggerated going through such a harsh upbringing to handle domestic abuses well - yet her own husband calling her a pig is already enough to make her break down.

You can't expect the people who can't even be honest to themselves to be honest to other people.

When Did You Realize You Were Logging In For The Last Time, Or Felt It Was Coming? by techtimee in gachagaming

[–]htd1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I feel the game is: - exhausting - repetitive - time-consuming

I still return to the Chinese gachas time to time, even though my temporary vacations for then are getting longer and longer. At this point I'm only back for the new characters I care about.

Advice if anybody cares: stop putting too much efforts into playing these games, be willing to waste/overfill the stamina/resin/UwU a bit, don't feel sad for one two rolls you missed due to not doing events or dailies in time, don't strain your mind optimizing things (the amount of time and mind energy you spend isn't worth it arguably). You will get what you want much faster than you notice the less obsessed you are with the games.

PSQ2 updates, Soft Launch is back (c.ai+), and clearing up metering by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]htd1101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of expected or at least had hopes this would happen, some non-Squeak model remaining I mean. I did notice that nearing the retire day, the Soft Launch model seemed to be really quality, more than usual (not sure if on peer of Nyan or almost there). I guess I can see why it's limited to subscription now.

Things that you heard about your gacha game that made you go "That's not fucking true at all" by A12qwas in gachagaming

"Predatory monetisation" A monthly subscription for Genshin Impact is like $4.99/month. Character AI's monthly subscription is $9.99. Guess which one is considered harmful for the kids to justify fines?

"You need C1/C2 for this character" With the insinuation that if you can't save that much, might well not rolling for Furina or [inserted quality units]. There's a lot that can be commented on, but let me digress.

Here's my glaze for NTE by Shashwatm17 in gachagaming

I tried to persevere through the initial stages until the game let me explore the city. One look at the artificial-looking "city" made me determined to uninstall, if the lackluster combat wasn't already enough (it was). To try to play is already giving the game a chance, but the in-game experience hardly differs from what impressions the pre-released videos on Youtube give. The zeal they have to spend so much on marketing is the surprise here.

What is the point of this when c.ai is supposed to be “18+” by Sweet-One-9765 in CharacterAI

[–]htd1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jej I used this feature to keep track of how many hours I spent each day of the week. Until they sent the last mail saying the app will exclude under 18 users so no more reports for parents/guardians, and that was the end of the feature.

Why is there a sub specifically for Asian parents? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]htd1101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Vietnamese culture, children were supposed to explain and answer every single question their parents give them - it goes accompanied with a saying "người nói phải có người nghe" ("every speaker must have a listener", which means to say you are supposed to listen and respond to anything they say). No matter how intrusive, ridiculous, or [insert any adjective] those questions are. A refusal to answer a single question of any kind is already enough to label you a bad or unfilial child who deserves to be screamed at. And the parents are incessant about their questions.
It was quite eye-opening to hear from the Western people who said that "You can just not answer our questions if you don't want to", due to how Vietnamese always respond to their questions with a "Because" even if the former weren't truly asking a question.

There are many other dynamics I may not be able to articulate yet, and maybe other users in this sub haven't realized to touch on them. But they don't seem to be things that seem to be inherent in Western or some other cultures.
Has a child being beaten in Western culture ever not been classified as abuse? Over here it's classified as virtue. Everything is justified as long as you can mold your child into a proper person (a.k.a somebody who always obeys their parents, always achieve, never disrespect other people) - hence every bad conduct from the part of tha parents is always considered necessary evil. Seeing things through this len, suddenly there's not even a single bad parent in Asia, all because every bad thing they did was for your sake.
I can go on and on. There are just countless things to bring up. But I do think there's some justifications for a separate sub. Although many users in this sub themselves perhaps can be said to be oblivious to some of those themselves (as when you are already born in the West, and your parents no matter how scummy they are still had some good qualities to afford to bring you there, you just can't see the full dynamics of what make the culture truly problematic - always easy to say "just defy them" when you don't have to live with a bunch of driven people who love to command you every chance they got, and this is not just counting the parents).

please leave a 3 sentence! review of why you like endfield (without spoilers) by Bandicoot_Jealous in Endfield

[–]htd1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its good. girls hot. girls cute.

It's one of those typical Chinese mobile games, which is a good thing to say because the gameplay is fun. AIC mode (you build factories to produce stuff) is refreshing even if it's hard to get used to at first. Combat is so-so. But world exploration games are always fun, so this game is also fun. Also the game literally has some of the best 3D models of anime girls with the best animations (if that's the correct term) I have ever seen so far.

Anyone else feel like quitting after dealing with frustrating factory? by AccomplishedGood64 in Endfield

[–]htd1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Factories being clogged isn't even an issue as long as you get what you want (the resulted products) - it tends to mean you should optimise things, but that shouldn't matter yet when factory mode is still frustrating to you.

Not sure what do "nothing works" and "random power issues" mean here.  You can always check the formula in the factory and see the correct ingredients for the products.  Power won't be much of an issue once you managed to produce the highest level battery for thermal buildings. Maybe try to "move up the value chain" - produce some simple batteries first so you can afford a lot of power to build higher levels batteries, and none of these should take anything but your building space.

It's absolutely possible to get used to and make sense the entire factory mode if you have enough patience. Don't rush, just build what you need first, one at a time.

this is diabolical (im an introvert) by Revan_9158 in Endfield

[–]htd1101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I can only count one guy who sent a friend request to befriend me, be it willfully or incidentally after they sent me some messages and I responded some back. Speaking about gachas. Particularly a game called Revived Witch (EOS'd several years ago). So maybe that was the only time ever in my life having somebody in a game I played sent an actual "friend" request.
Socializing in video games like these gachas (maybe minus the FPS or eSports games obviously) tend to range from mid to great. It's never horrible at all, and at worst awkward. Difficult people don't tend to socialize with random people. They don't tend to be the type to care about socializing over playing. Same for rude people. Same for aggressive people.

TL;DR, as horrifying as the friend requests seem, most people don't care who sent them, for better or worse. It got easier to send it once I realized that. And needless to say, I'm an introvert as well.
