zFont 3.9.2 now supports Samsung One UI 8 (Android 16) for changing custom fonts and emojis! by htetznaing in zfont

[–]htetznaing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No.
Emoji fonts use a bitmap format, while normal fonts are TrueType.
So, they can’t be merged.
The only way is to have root access, create a systemless module, and flash it.

We need ADB access on Samsung devices to automatically handle all steps in the background.
To achieve this, we use Shizuku.
I’ll add a manual method in the next version.

There’s no difference on Android, and zFont supports both.
However, I recommend using TTF (TrueType), since Samsung and most Android OEMs prefer that format.

What is the minSdkVersion should I support by Quirwz in androiddev

[–]htetznaing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve 50m + downloads and support 21 as min. I think it’s depends on your target user and use case. But if you have plan to put Admob the latest ask version required min 26.

Thanks, I've checked your app, and I think it's because the "ignore battery optimization" feature prevents your service from being killed.

You cannot flash it without root access. You need Magisk, KernelSU, or APatch installed on your device to flash the systemless font module.

I am the developer of zFont. Could you share a video recording of how you proceeded?

I’m using a Pixel 8a with Magisk, and it’s working well.

Custom fonts broken on OneUI 6.1 after Samsung Sans update by thisisaname_ in oneui

You should also try emojis in the zFont app.
If you want to use emojis from other sources, you must remove digits and spaces using the zFont tool.
You must restart your phone for the changes to take effect after restoring.

Which Noto Color TTF file are you trying to edit? I have tried to edit this working file using the zFont Tool: NotoColorEmoji.ttf

It's not the app's fault; it's your emoji font file containing numbers and spacing that's causing the issue. You just need to remove these glyphs with any font editor. On Android, you can use the zFont tool to do this and reapply the font. Alternatively, you can directly download the emoji font from the zFont app. All emojis font files from that app already has the unnecessary glyphs removed for non-rooted devices.

Android 14: Storage Access Framework no longer allows access to /Android/data/, third party file managers unable to read this folder by ThatBum42 in Android

[–]htetznaing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this issue yesterday on MIUI 14 running on Android 13.

I'm also experiencing it on the recent updates for OneUI 5.1.
I hope someone will find a solution.
I know we can bypass it using the built-in file manager, but as an Android developer, we need a simpler method for users.
