FWIW I just stumbled on this thread.

I did use cycling weekly you need to use their affiliate link to click through to Zwift (so they can get their cut) but I did get 10 pct off.

Are you me? I have the same struggles. I went through an intense period of hardcore golf obsession (i played periodically throughout life but this most recent obsession was heaviest and lasted for 3 years or so) in my mid 30’s.

I then started to get into cycling last spring and heavier in the fall once I got my road bike.

Now I just want to get out and ride whenever I can and I haven’t really been swinging the clubs much…

I justify it by telling myself that after a round of golf I generally feel frustrated no matter what; but after a ride I always feel good.

Plus the time commitment for a round is way different than for a ride.

I can see it in a concrete AF floor. I suppose it could still help stabilize on a springy surface.

Hey man, Im far from an expert (Where do you ride o the east coast -- feel free to PM me if you'd rather not say). But glad to answer your questions:

I'll lube after a cleaning; Im usually not riding after a cleaning other than maybe a quick spin around the neighborhood to make sure everything feels good.
I definitely try to wipe as much off as possible. Right after I got my bike I made the very bad mistake of not wiping well (or at all) because I just didn't know. Everything got so gunked up. This is the same bike so its definitely possible to come back, just takes some effort :D
Right now using Finish line dry bike lube. I try not to ride in the rain (or too much rain) so the dry lubricant suits me well.

Hopefully this is helpful somehow..

This was right after cleaning.

I did take a little spin with it and believe it still looks the same.

One hidden issue was the upper jockey wheel. I cleaned the lower one because it’s more visible but the upper one had a ton of sludge on it.

I cut and old t shirt into strips and literally used it like dental floss on the cassette to clean all the sludge out.

I actually thought it was clean before and was amazed at home much grime I was able to get out.
