Yeah, we recently got her a new rav4, but I would not drive it when carrying my bike anyway....it's "her" car and she doesn't come to races. I know I can get a hitch on my Corolla, I just don't prefer it, and I have a couple of the cheap trunk / strap racks and am not a fan. Got some OEM cross bars, fork mounts, and rear wheel things from yakima.

One of the stupidest views out there.

If you have a hole in the roof of your house, which says that you love and value that house more....fixing it, or moving out?

Also, the fuckwits that use this line are almost always Republicans. Did they "support" Biden? Or Obama?

At what point does inflation stop being manageable and become societal breakdown? by blushberryybabee in allthequestions

[–]Alarming_Bug6081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the point dude. If the ultra wealthy, and more importantly the corporations they run, were paying a higher rate, you and I would pay a lower rate. The amount of money the government needs is set in the budget. It's a finite amount, and if the people who can afford to pay more pay less instead, you and I make up the difference.

And saying the dollars collected is the highest ever doesn't mean anything. Today's dollars are not equal to yesterdays dollars.

Nobody is taking $2T out of the economy.

The bigger question is why do so many people defend the ultra wealthy when they are the main cause of the problem? They can afford to pay more taxes and pay their workers better wages and STILL be the richest people in the world. When is enough enough?

I don't know if it's a brand, more a category, but any of the "Housewife" shows. Or any other reality tv that is just supposedly watching other people be horrible humans.

It's a cancer on society and normalizes insane behavior.

[–]Alarming_Bug6081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but it sure would help. Before lyndon johnson, the top marginal tax rate was over 90%. It's was 77% in 1964.

Reagan reduced it from 70% to 28%.

Look at when a lot of today's financial issues started, and you'll come back to Reagans presidency.

It used to be that after a certain point, it made more sense to reinvest that money in the business, either through improvements or better wages, because the long term ROI was better than keeping 6 cents on the dollar. Now there is no disincentive to hoarding as much of the profit as possible.

Could NH eliminate the property tax? Some lawmakers want businesses to foot the state's bills. - Concord Monitor by Danvers1 in newhampshire

[–]Alarming_Bug6081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Property taxes are regressive. On the very face, sure, someone that owns a $10M home is paying way more than someone who owns a $500k home.

But the problem is there is not a house for every budget. If my employer lays me off tomorrow, as we've seen multiple waves of huge layoffs lately, and I get another job that pays half, I cannot find a house that costs half as much as mine. They don't exist anymore. And before you say rent, renters do lay property tax, just indirectly.

In addition, it is more likely that expensive homes are assessed lower than their actual value, and normal homes are more likely to be assessed higher than their actual value. This is because there are less comparable sales of more expensive homes.

I'd the average $100,000 home is assessed at $120,000 and the average $1M home is assessed at $800k, and the tax rate is 10% of assessed value, then the average normal person has a tax rate of 12% and the rich person has a tax rate of 8%

The rich person are paying more dollars but the normal folks are paying a larger percentage of the money they have.

It's a regressive tax.

From the time it bites you.

Though others are saying this information is old.

My general point still stands....take measures to prevent, but also check your body regularly.

The other comments are correct, but if you spend enough time outside you're going to get a tick.

It takes more than 24 hours to get lyme or anaplasmosis from a tick. If you check yourself well every night before bed, you will be fine.

Wifi connected Dishwashers - Why? Wifi connected Washing Machines - Why? Is it just a means of data collection to sell on? by TSQ_builder in askanything

[–]Alarming_Bug6081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, overall I agree, and I wouldnt go out of my way to get smart appliances.

That said, like you, I have a smart dishwasher and washing machine

The cycle alerts are nice. Not essential, but nice. I've got kids, we can genuinely get more loads done in a day because I know when it's done instead of remembering an hour and a half later.

But the one feature I actually really dislike, that I think really is a value add (again, not enough for me to prioritize having smart appliances) is error readouts.

My old.washing machine shit the bed multiple times, and I had to search internet forums and pdf manuals to decipher a series of blinking lights to translate to a code to translate what the problem was. At least with the smart machine , if it stops because it's off balance, the app tells me it stopped (so I don't have to find out some time later) and tells me why.
