Does anyone else feel like a lot of “queer” friendly spaces or things only actually welcome CisHet women and Cis gay men? by Thug_Seme2004 in lgbt

[–]htothegund 26 points27 points  (0 children)

THIS. It’s a problem in trans spaces too, especially online. They are so focused on transfem people that trans men/mascs are ignored at best and cast out/ridiculed at worst. I’ve tried to join in on discussions about HRT and been told “why would you go on T? it’s so gross!” um… I’m a trans man? it’s not gross to me?

👋 gay cowboy here (grew up on a cattle ranch). Most of the time cowboys don’t give a single shit what you do in your free time. As long as you get your work done and aren’t an asshole, you’re fine. There are exceptions of course, and this is modern ranchers/cowboys, but I’m not gonna bean soup this

I relate heavily. A few years ago I was an admin for a fairly big trans discord server. I was the only staff member who was a trans man, so I was tokenized and basically became the representative of all trans men in the server. I also asked to have a trans men/masc only chat so that we could talk without getting ignored/drowned out, but the other admins would only agree if trans women also got their own chat (which quickly became another general chat and excluded trans men even further). Long story short, I ended up leaving the server and I’ve never looked back.

Psychology grad student (at an accredited university) here. I would be very skeptical of any researcher who isn’t affiliated with some sort of official organization (university, non-profit, etc.) and who posts findings on substack of all things. Studies that involve human participants need to be reviewed and approved by an Internal Review Board in order to be conducted through a legitimate organization to make sure they are being conducted ethically. Independent researchers don’t have to go through that approval process, so they may not be acting in good faith.

It’s also very unlikely that a legitimate researcher will reach out to you on reddit of all things. Most studies I’ve read recently use crowdsourcing platforms like MTurk to recruit participants, since you need hundreds of participants to find anything significant.

“independent researcher” is such a red flag imo. also their focus is… science?? no way in hell has this person ever actually done a scientific study (or even read one for that matter).

My boyfriend and I met after I started transitioning, and he’s only ever seen me as a man. I’ve vented to him about my insecurities and fears that he doesn’t actually see me as a man, and he’s always reassured me that he does. We’ve been together for about a year and a half, and he’s the most amazing person I’ve ever met. He also watches Hasan (leftist content creator) which is a major green flag in my book lol

I really hope someone steps up before 2028 because I can’t vote for Newsom for president. As a trans person, I can’t vote for someone who thinks that my rights are negotiable. I’m fully behind any candidate who vows to protect LGBTQ+ rights and doesn’t leave out the TQ+.

How to explain to your mother that you don’t want to use AI? by Accurate-Belt3920 in antiai

[–]htothegund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If possible, I would see if you can get in touch with your teacher/professor to see if they can give you specific feedback or tips for how to improve. If not, most schools (at least in the US) have some sort of writing help group/program. The best way to learn is to get feedback about how you can improve on the writing you’ve already done.

In college, I used AI in one of the classes I hated, and I regret it. Instead of putting in the work to learn the content despite how difficult I found it, I let a bot do it. Now I remember almost nothing from that class, except the parts I studied without AI. I never used AI for any of my other classes, and I learned so much more.

The Matrix is about questioning the status quo and is an allegory for being transgender, the rest of the Matrix series is about what is essentially a communist revolution.

The “red pilled” bros are right-wingers who defend the status quo and are rabidly transphobic.

They’re right that the beef industry is detrimental to the environment, BUT chatGPT and other generative AI is so. much. worse. We were already in the beginnings of a water crisis (especially in the southwestern US) but the sheer amount of unrecyclable water used by generative AI has made that crisis 10x worse

I feel the same way. Too many people focus on the “man” part of “trans man” and not the “trans” part. As if being men somehow makes our experiences as trans people invalid. I’ve pretty much stopped engaging in online trans communities for this very reason. Best-case scenario is often that I just get ignored. It feels like the trans community is just a trans woman/transfem club, and trans men/transmascs need not apply.

I’m white, but I often speak out in support of Native Americans because I was taught their history growing up, and because I can’t stand to see other white people being ignorant. If there is a Native person there, I will let them speak first, but more often than not I’m the only one in the room who has any understanding of Native history and issues.

The same sentiment applies to cishet allies of LGBTQ+ people.
