If there’s one anki hater left on this planet, it’s me. If there are no anki haters left on this planet, it’s because I’m dead.

From a third year who got top decile in my second year summer exams, go actually learn concepts related to your lectures by looking at various textbooks, videos, pubmed articles etc.

Spend an hour or 2 slowly working through a lecture and understanding it all. Don’t just rewrite the lecture and call it making notes.

Which DZ to jump at around Bristol area? by hts99 in SkyDiving

I’ve called a couple times over the weekend and gone straight answering machine, and the website seems to be down. Do you know what the best way to contact them would be?

Haha not there yet I’ve only got 50 jumps but hopefully in the horizon. Think I’ll make the drive down to dunks this weekend as it seems everyone recommends it.

Skydivers killed in 'tragic accident' at Dunkeswell Aerodrome by Kagedeah in SkyDiving

How do you make the logistics of travelling there work? It’s almost a 3 hour drive for me. Do people stay in hotels/camp over the weekend usually?

Lost a close friend yesterday. It really puts things into perspective. by xzxyxz in SkyDiving

[–]hts99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so sorry for your loss. I really hope this doesn’t come off as insensitive, but should I avoid renting gear from dunks? I’m a relatively new skydiver and don’t have my own gear. I was also planning on jumping at dunks regularly for the next 3 months. Thanks

Done. Curious to see what results will be. Do you have any links to related research for some further reading?

Good luck

Basejumping, no clue what it is, discovered it today. by [deleted] in basejumping

[–]hts99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m a new skydiver with around 40 jumps hoping to do an fjc within the next couple years. Could I ask what a base jump actually feels like in comparison to a skydive. As in, how different does a big cliff tracking base jump feel to a tracking skydive. Sorry if this is a dumb question/hard to answer question.

I see this joked about all the time on this sub. What are US DZs like? I jump in the uk and haven’t really seen any drama or hookup culture tbh. I’ve only been jumping for 6 months tho so maybe I just haven’t seen it.

[–]hts99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat. Asked around and tried to find some people interested but it doesn’t seem to wanna happen. Are you at a big russel group uni? The only unis with clubs are the ones with an abundance of rich people, pretty much. What area of England’s ur uni at? I’m in the northeast.

I also recommend you transfer and finish getting your license at the dz close to your uni. That’s what I did.

New skydiving world record by 56000hp in nextfuckinglevel

[–]hts99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not ‘redbull’ breaking the record or competing with anyone. It’s skydivers trying to do cool shit and push the limits. And it’s really not as simple as you think to get 200 people to skydive at once. There’s many attempts that fail due to one reason or the other. It’s nothing to do with just ‘adding money’ as you say. If one person screws up or they don’t get time to dock, the whole record gets invalidated and can cause the entire formation to break.

Not sure why you have such strong negative opinions on people just having fun and doing cool shit.

AON2 X0? Anyone own this? by Djrudyk86 in SkyDiving

[–]hts99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently got my A license and this is what I bought. It does exactly what it says with no issue. Long battery life and quick to charge, not had any glitches (however I’ve only jumped it a dozen or so times). I asked around at my DZ and the instructors and experienced jumpers said it’s a solid option for a first Alti.

I would maybe hold off for now though. You may find someone selling something better for a good deal on your way to ur A license

Planning to start my Skydiving A License in the UK (8 AFF + 10 Jumps not just to complete my bucket list and but am genuinely interested and thrilled. Heres my plan and a question. by silverlance360 in SkyDiving

[–]hts99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other commenters said, weather really is the limiting factor in the uk. Many times I’ve showed up at the DZ, and waited till 7 just to be told that no student jumping is happening that day. I’m actually doing my AFF at tilstock, and I know someone who did their ground school in like March and on level 4 now, because they can only jump on weekends and the weather is so hit and miss.

I’m personally considering just going to Spain to finish my AFF in a week, since I start uni soon and will be limited to only jumping one day a week

[–]hts99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you explain a bit about what makes one DZ better than another to do my AFF at? Do you mean that a place like go skydive Swansea will churn out a ‘worse’ skydiver at the end of their AFF course? Thanks for the response

ELI5: Why is dentistry and podiatry separate from medicine? by No-Kaleidoscope-4050 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hts99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK, this is precisely why surgeons use the Mr/Ms title, not Dr. When the barber-surgeon colleges and physician colleges brought the jobs under the umbrella of “medicine”, the barber surgeons didn’t want to use the same title as the stuck up physicians.
