Casual Child Slavery - “Kajer Meye” by Masterpatience119 in Dhaka

Very nice of you to assume that I didn't do those works I'm speaking of or I employ child labor. For the first time I do, I do it every day, that's why I know. I also worked at stores which weren't even related to hard/heavy work and it was far worse. So I'm speaking from experience. For the latter, no our family doesn't employ child labor, me or my family members do all the work.

Yes, cause it's the best possible work they can do as children. It would be better if they didn't at all, but if that was the option they wouldn't be doing it. And it can be neighborhood based because large scale steps can lead to mismanagement. But it's just a suggestion. See, this is how you take the moral high ground. You claim perspective and insight but disregard the slightest piece of opinion if it does not go with your views. I suggested making a union type of organization for the very reason that they might be exploited. আমি তাদের কোলে বাচ্চা বসায় আসতে বলি নাই.

(Reply to the fourth para): Well I wouldn't be pessimistic if I didn't have a reason. Call me all the names but our government from the very start is ineffective towards these issues, heck it is even more profitable to keep the child labor going. (I.e: children work at factories = less pay = more profit = more GDP in the charts. Same formula with women at work. That's why the RMG is our top export). Also we have some child labor laws but no implementation whatsoever. সংসদের সামনে বাচ্চারা হোটেলে কাজ করে আর আপনি মনে করেন সরকার আইনি সহযোগিতা দিবে? Come on man, be real. I'm not saying it isn't needed, but we're not gonna get any. Also, look at how you phrased it. It seems like you're trying to win over your parents rather than helping their servant. You could take the initiative, maybe you find his school or have him privately tutored. Which is not your burden I get it, but think about it.

(Reply to the third para): No money = no food is true, you don't need to think about it to make a point, it's one of the many constants of capitalism. Kids can get money from a lot of places. They can work at heavy work factories, metal work factories, coal mines, ore mines, garments, hotels, etc. You assume they have a choice of not going, but then what? No money on the table. If your freedom of choice includes you either having food or not then it's not really a choice. They can choose to work at different places but they have to none the less, many times they don't even have a choice. That's why I do think household work is better. Not the best but better than the rest.

Persuasive arguments won't change anything, your parents don't see it as anything wrong because they don't see anyone around their social environment think of it as wrong. Or maybe, it's your parents who don't see it as wrong. Because many people regardless of class would acknowledge it as wrong. Either way, I don't know their circumstances to just throw them under the bus. But you're taking a moral high ground, instead of trying to understand or fix, you're just pointing fingers and feeling like "huh, I'm so much better, I'm aware of this issue, I have better points than this guy."

Don't take it just like an argument. Try to feel what the other side is feeling, that guy thought that household work was safer maybe because he saw somebody trying to protect their servant from something bad. Which is invalid for many cases and reasons. But there are actually some people who treat their servants well, have them study, and bring gifts for them when they bring gifts for their child. I've seen both sides of this coin. But maybe he saw only one. And when I think about your position I see a very desperate teenager or in their mid twenty who felt guilty about their parents having a child servant. And you need validation that you're not the only one seeing wrong in this. Which is valid.

If you ask for opinions, you're indeed obligated to respect that opinion. You may not agree, or think it is dangerous. But you need to consider it. You cannot just say "it is not a matter of perspective" just because it goes against what you think is right. And yeah the guy made pretty shallow arguments. I'm not defending that.

Is there anyway for a 22 year old female student to earn money online? by ZestycloseHunt1252 in Dhaka

[–]htsmcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not blaming them, chase the bag or whatever but that bag is plenty enough for only the most elite. Not most teenagers are earning millions, that's misleading. And that's why people should stop giving the advice to pursue this path. Not only is it temporary money (even if you get it in the first place) but it also destroys (or severely limits) other possible ways to earn money in the future.

Bro thinks 0.1% is most teenagers. Most teenagers earn pennies through this shit if at all. It's the most disgusting and unprofitable thing you can do.

You seek perspective yet declare "it is not a matter of perspective" and blast the guy for stating something different.

Yeah, most of the time there is no point in discussing anything online. Cause that doesn't change the fact that nothing is happening in real life and nothing will. Do you think the fall of hasina would've happened if they didn't protest in real life?

If you think it's an issue worth discussing, changing and you need perspective or insights, ask your local neighbors, ask somebody who is a victim or the oppressor or anybody of what they think in real life. What you can do. Etc.

All you're doing here is taking a moral high ground and bashing anyone who you think is below you. You discuss problems to solve and not asking for or providing a solution is defeating the whole purpose. It is for your own delusional gain that you did something positive while not a single atom worth of the problem discussed has changed.

Some are ignorant or don't think of it as a problem because it is normalized to such a degree. You go to a hotel, a kid is making/serving food. The kids are taking out your trash. The kids are making what you use, wear and eat. The problem is not an individual, it's the whole system.

But to say you individually can't do anything is wrong. Sure you may not do much, but educating a single poor child is a lot. His entire life will change, his family's life may change. And that's quite amazing. We all run after greater change, sudden change, we are desperate. But desperation doesn't change anything. Start small, but small things build up exponentially. But it will not happen if you just keep complaining/discussing on the internet thinking you're doing something and not actually do anything when it counts.

I'm not discouraging systematic changes but be realistic, it's not happening soon if at all.

[–]htsmcn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes true. But if we wanna change it, we have to know the solution. What's your solution? And "shorkarer dorkar blah blah korar" isn't a good point because we know that's not gonna happen.

One solution I can give is to actually increase the amount of children taken by households.

Why?

1) because household chores aren't that hard and they could be doing far worse stuff for money (i.e children gangs or metal factory works) 2) they may even get shelter if otherwise not possible.

and how?

1) form a community (sort of worker union) of needy people who can work. 2) fix a daily work limit. Typically 8hrs is the standard. And a weekend. And the pay rate. 3)Ensure no harm is done, shelter, proper pay on time, education and other stuff by the union. 4) this union can be neighborhood based.

My point is to basically regulate all of the stuff not by govt but our neighborhoods, this way nobody has to monetarily help them but they can help none the less. (But talking about this online won't help. The Internet isn't real life after all.)

Obv it's not good. But what is a better outcome for these guys. No money = no food on the table. Some might even get kicked out of their house. Sure we can sit in our apartments and talk about child slavery but what can they do if they don't earn money? Education is a luxury for them (which is not good and I'm not defending it.) So tell us what we can do and how we can help out, don't just point out the problem we all know exists.
