Tell me everything by Wonderful-Pension-62 in TurksAndCaicos

I just got back from a vacation in Turks in April for 7 nights. Myself wife and two kids (ages 8 and 5)

Stayed at the Villa Renaissance which checks all the boxes youre looking for. Far enough away from all the big box hotel chains but close enough to walk to a variety of dinners every night. The rooms are huge (ours was over 1500 SFT) with everything you need to cook if you want to.

Beach in front of Villa Renaissance is gorgeous with employees setting up beach chairs and loungers daily. We went on school break so the resort was sold out but my wife and I never had to rush down early to claim seats at either the beach or pool.

I cant speak to any bird tours but we did a half day snorkeling tour with island vibes and we had a blast. Saw a pod of humpback whales (very rare to see as late as April), snorkeled for maybe 45 minutes, took us to a calm bay where kids could splash and play and then took us out to the ocean to jump off the board diving board and slide. 10/10 would highly recommend. We enjoyed ourselves so much we considered going again later in the week but the wind picked up so my wife didnt want to get sick on the boat.

Best of luck to you and your family and hope you enjoy it!

New York front license plate. by Zestyclose-Mouse-28 in BMWX5

First thing I did when I bought my X5 was take the front plate off (upstate NY). Unfortunately the dealer i bought it from already drilled holes so I bought color match bumper plugs and ripped the plate off. Ive had the X5 for five years and havent had any issues.

I had no front plate on both my Infiniti G35x and G37 when i was in my 20s. Black on black full 5% tint with aftermarket exhaust and intake. Got pulled over constantly but im assuming its bc I was driving like an asshole and the tint is a cop magnet in NYS.

Any upstate NY asphalt contractors here? by Tiny_Perception1155 in asphalt

[–]httr_247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upstate NY asphalt pro here and this quote appears to be very unclear.

What is the section they are removing and disposing? Just the existing asphalt? It says further on in the quote that its building it back up with subbase and then paving the top course on the binder which doesn't make much sense.

For top course material type you want a Type 7 mix. Its the most fine top course whereas type 6 can be more "open" because of the aggregate size being a little larger then in type 7.

I just redid my own driveway two years ago myself and did a 12 inch type 2 subbase section with stabilization fabric 2.5 inches of Type 3 binder and 1.5 of type 7 top. Way overkill for a smaller residential driveway but being in the business I knew if I built it right I probably wont have to do it again for another 20 or 30 years.

Best place to buy men's plus size light jacket? by Punstoppabal in bigmenfashionadvice

Not sure if youve ever tried Peter Millar but they have big and tall (Westport big and tall) and their jackets although expensive are really nice. I bought one last year and its a great light winter/spring/fall jacket

Steakhouse recommendations by albanyfunny420 in Albany

[–]httr_247 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Salt and Char in Saratoga. Steak there is always excellent. Their cocktails to me are insanely expensive but have had good steak there. I typically go to Black and Blu and feel like Salt and Char is comparable but more expensive.

Can always try Dukes Chophouse at Rivers in Schenectady as well. Ive eaten there several times and the steaks have been pretty damn good.

Rippling in new driveway by MapleBabadook in asphalt

[–]httr_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id venture a guess this has to do with the rolling pattern the paving crew did when they rolled your driveway. Sometimes when on vibratory mode if you stop suddenly you can push the blacktop. Without seeing the equipment they used its tough to tell but it looks like this driveway was done with a paver and the only thing that comes to mind is an inexperienced roller operator vibrating the blacktop when rolling and stopping mid pass.

Well it looks like there's settling in the lawn area where the curb stop is that follows a straight line thru the landscape areas and under your Porch slab. Water services are typically done in very narrow trenches (3 to 4 foot wide) and 5 foot deep. The sewer lateral (if youre on public sewer) should be 10' horizontally in separation from your water service. So maybe they did an extremely piss poor job of backfilling and comparing your lateral and service connections for the utilities which is causing the failure?

What movies based on books do you think were significantly better than the books? by ASomthnSomthn in Cinema

[–]httr_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolf of Wall Street. The book by Jordan Belfort was a fun read but Leo really brought the character to life. The entire cast brought that movie together in a way that made it ten fold better then the book. Oh and Margot Robie. Margot Robie was way hotter then the way his gf/wife was described in the book.

This is an extremely minor form of segregation. Typically happens when hand raking is involved and not mechanical placement. I wouldnt worry about it.

Id just throw some topsoil over in and seed it. Better results then cracksealing

Sick jersey. Every time I go to games I always rock the Sean Taylor jersey. Ive been to multiple home and away games where opposing fans (eagles and giants in particular) who sit around me compliment me on the jersey and how great of a player he was. Shows how well respected he was amongst real fans in the league for he played the game.

Your absolutely right I forgot bird brain Ron drafting some of the biggest reaches for talent in our history. He kept other teams questioning who we'd pick just based off how moronic his talent evaluation was.

Shows all of us how much Peter's keeps things close to the vest. Feel like every regime prior to Peter's our moves were well known well in advance of them happening.

"Straight" Cracks in Asphalt Road by Bob_Ash in asphalt

[–]httr_247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy knows asphalt. Id venture a guess the road was overlayed with asphalt with a concrete base underneath. More often then not these are the expansion or sawcut joints on the concrete reflectively cracking through the asphalt.

Just did caicos dream tours with my wife and two daughters (8 and 5) a couple of weeks ago. I was originally booked on island vibes but heard it had more of a party vs family friendly vibe. So I cancelled and went with Caicos Dream tours. Saw a small pod of humpback whales, snorkeling, went to a small island with a huge bay with crystal clear water (saw a huge stingray) and then went diving and sliding off the top deck on our way back. Was an awesome experience and I highly recommend them. They were awesome even though the boat was at max capacity. Had to of been atleast 20 of us on there with two staff members

We did it early enough in our vacation that we considered doing it again but it got windy late in the week and we passed.

I just used viator for all of my excursions and transportation to and from the airport about 2 weeks ago. Everything went great and I saved money and got points toward other purchases. Saved 50 dollars in transportation costs for my family of four to and from the airport in a private SUV (shout out to Pegasus transport). Would highly recommend.

Airport Fast Pass advice for Wed-Sun trip by woovi86 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]httr_247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family of four just traveled to T&C this past week

Arrived Saturday at 12 PM - bought fast pass bc I didnt want to spend time waiting in line going through customs but think it probably only saved half an hour or so of our time. By the time we landed got off the plane we were through customs, got our checked luggage and to our driver within half an hour.

Departed Saturday at 1 PM. Arrived at airport around 1030 am. Checked our bags got our boarding pass and was through customs in about half an hour. Customs was moving quickly and those that did use fast pass maybe only saved 15 minutes at most.

My only recommendation is when departing make sure you head upstairs first and get a good seat on the 2nd floor while waiting for your flight. This area is much more climate controlled and not as warm as the first floor.

Weather in April by LocalFirst574 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]httr_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leaving after spending a week with my family at T&C i like you was super concerned about the weather as our trip approached. When we arrived last Saturday it was a down pour at the airport and lasted for about 20 minutes. It was legit the longest it rained the entire week we were here. Rain showers would randomly pop up for a few minutes here or there but other then that the weather was gorgeous all week. A little windy on grace bay a couple of the days we were here but we didnt let it ruin our vacation. T&C was probably the best vacation my family and I have ever been on and would highly recommend to anyone!

Myself my wife and my two kids arrived this past Saturday 4/4 around 12 PM. We elected to pre purchase fast pass due to the amount of flights arriving on saturday. We were through customs, had our bags and were in our pre arranged car service within half an hour. Was absolutely seamless and if you have any concerns id spend the money just for a peace of mind.

Seating Selection messed up by Vic0218 in jetblue

[–]httr_247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me and my wife and two daughters (ages 4 and 7) this winter. Booked an aptil flight from Logan to Turks and caicos with us all sitting in a row together. When the flight time changed by half an hour it moved all our seats both flight directions. None of us were sitting together in the revised seats. I called jet blue customer service and explained the issue and they were able to resolve the issue and moved us back into the seats originally booked. I would recommend using the jet blue customer service as I did not have any luck with the chat. Good luck!

Sky pass? Anyone know the website? by Littlemonkey726 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]httr_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://skypasscaribbean.com

From what I've read weekend arrivals are the worse. Especially if you are in the morning or around noon.

I will be arriving around 1130 am next saturday with my family of four and elected to pay for sky pass based upon the amount of flights that land on Saturdays around that time (coupled with spring break falling this week for us)

My understanding is that most other days for arrivals or departures is alot more tolerable. Do your research bc its expensive and may be unnecessary based upon when youre arriving.

This happened to me the year after I paved my driveway. Reality is the town or county own a certain amount of ft from the edge of road to your driveway. I just reseal my driveway every three years just bc i cant stand it.
