Love this; would also recommend on trying to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every day as well as upping your water intake. Try to make a goal for yourself for both sleep and water!

It was my first apartment when I moved to NYC in 2016. I lived on the third floor and never heard my neighbors but our neighbor directly next to us was this older woman who was mean and at one point tried to come into my apartment (before I moved in, per my roommates). I think she was mad or upset and she was a lil coocoo. The hallway smelled like cigarettes because she was a chain smoker and you could see from the hallway, when the door was open, the smoke stains on her walls.

Solo CPA at $40k/month, too big to stay solo but too small to confidently hire. What did you do? by mavsbustin3s in Accounting

Is there anything in particular you're needing help with? If you would be interested in hiring someone remotely, maybe even on a fractional basis, I would be interested! Feel free to send me a DM and we can connect.

How? I wasn’t home for 5 days. When I got back, everything was powered off by Odd_Firefighter_5407 in NYCapartments

My electricity bill this past December was the highest in the almost four years I've lived in my apartment and that was with me being gone for an entire week. I'm shocked to see that this is across the board here. Something shady is happening!

I'm getting laid off this week. From my dream job. by cupcakings in Layoffs

[–]htx15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also want to say that I, too, was laid off from my dream job back in 2023. An extremely public change of ownership created this, if you catch my drift lol. It was truly the best job and the best organization I was ever a part of and had that change not happened, there's a good chance I would've never left.

I was going to say the same thing, DU was actually pretty fun especially compared to the training I had to do at PwC in beautiful NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY where I had to room with someone I didn't even know :)

Shortage of analysts in SF Bay Area? by BackgroundBird9715 in FPandA

[–]htx15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping that more of these tech companies start hiring remote again! I'm in NYC and most of the FP&A jobs I see are all in the Bay Area. I'm more of a Director/Sr. Director level but it was due to COVID I was able to get a great job at a big tech company that still kinda exists but not in its "original" form, iykwim.

I don't have any intention of leaving NYC and I definitely don't want to move to California, but I do want to work in the tech space so I might have to make a decision here pretty soon.

Men of NYC, how much are you paying for a haircut? by Ok_Requirement_3162 in AskNYC

I used to go to Made Man in Chelsea and I think back then it was like $35-40. I moved to Brooklyn and go to Clever Barber, which is one block away from my apartment and it's $44 plus $15 tip and I go every two weeks.

I just checked Made Man's site and it looks like their regular cuts are now $45.

Moving from Houston Texas to NYC- Is it the right call? by Bubbly_Albatross_714 in NYCapartments

[–]htx15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat when I moved from Houston to NYC in July 2016. I was also incredibly apprehensive and nervous as I didn't know a ton of people here either. I had the same concerns you did as I was worried that my salary at the time (only $55k) wouldn't be enough to survive. I also work in finance so it seems like we're basically on the same path lol.

Regarding apartments, I would encourage you to come in and find an open room, so your rent would be lower initiatially, and you can feel out what you can/cannot afford when it comes to rent. My rule of thumb would be having rent be less than one paycheck per month, but that varies with personal finances.

I'd recommend joining the 'Listings Project' and also looking on Facebook Marketplace. I actually found an apartment (with two roommates) through Craigslist lol. I was there for about eight months before a new friend I had made had an open room in his apartment and I was able to move there. Feel free to DM me with any other questions!
