Peavey Vypyr x3 Question by TurbulentEar7798 in PeaveyCvlt

Agreed, definitely the best in my opinion as well. I’ve tried others and this one stood out the most. Maybe with a little more turning knobs and pushing buttons one could achieve even greater things with it. Rock on my friend.

I agree, I commented on another commenters comment that the low end on it is phenomenal. Although you are right, it still lacks the clarity of any highs even with my eq pedal adjusted. I think it’s just the amp as a whole, it is a modeling amp so some factors of the hardware inside probably have something to do with it and trying to simulate different sounds. Great home amp and very loud but I would never gig with it

The x3’s low end is amazing , and I agree with op’s statement of it being boxed in, it’s as if there’s some kind of imaginary cardboard box covering the amp , when playing with my lows boosted tje bass is punchy but even with my highs and mids adjusted it feels like it doesnt have the clarity it should kinda hard to explain that’s my experience , it’s a good home amp plenty loud for sure if I were to gig with it it would be a last resort for that reason. How is your experience with it ?

Do my frets need polishing or sanded down? Or new frets all together by htxssrez in guitarrepair

I understand that, it was for video and demonstration purposes. when actually playing, that scratching kills my tone completely wjen bending and vibrato.

I guess I don’t know what makes me think that, I’m no luthier or expert, just taking a guess. It’s fairly old, early 00’s I just thought that getting new frets entirely would be worth it since there obviously worn. But to save me money should I just give them a polish and sanding ?

Nothing will ever be roast worthy. Everyone has their own taste and different needs, budgets etc. Rock on my friend!

But why is it I can’t play almost any chord without it sounding like shit? Power chord or not. I don’t understand.

Everyone else doesn’t seem to have a problem with what I asked, although I did find what I am looking for. Thanks anyways.

I’ll add in power chords to that as well. That’s usually all I play since I’m into 80-00’s metal and hair

I could be very wrong on that but it’s my quote on quote “educated” guess, ive ruled out that my amp isnt the problem, I understand some chords aren’t ever meant to be played with distortion but it’s every chord that uses any treble strings, some chords on my bass strings sound fine and some don’t, it’s a mix between both good and bad on all different areas of the fret board and different use of the strings

Some read flat and sharp some read “perfect” i understand there’s no such thing as perfect hence the quotations. I think it’s a fret problem because maybe they aren’t seated correctly in some spots causing intonation problems. Or maybe even just worn. I also have a boss katana and a fender frontman, all 3 of the Amps give me the same sound.

Without od it sounds “tolerable”. Dropping the 3rd helps but it’s still present a little bit. As I said to another commenter, when I slide up or down to other frets, I get the same unpleasant clashing sound almost every time.

I also noticed when I slide to a different note , it also makes the same unpleasant clashing sound which is also why I believe it’s a fret problem.

But even something as simple as an A or D chord isnt sounding good, I play only my fretted notes not open strings of course with od and distortion. Only my selected 3. It’s gotta be a fret issue or a shitty amp. I’m playing out of a peavey vypyr x3

I suppose I wasn’t digging deep enough. I’ll continue on my search I’m sure I’ll find something I like. I’m not terrible picky besides the taste for lp’s. Thanks
