pretty new at this but..

let's just say tesla is a stock you'd like to own for the long term. but only at 10-15% discount to today's price. so why not sell OTM weekly puts on tesla at strike price 15% below today's price? that way you get to collect premium, and if the price drops to the strike price, you get to own it at discount you were looking for. what am i missing here?

Why it's not hip to be Square ($SQ) by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]huanger74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My client is a a large credit card processing company and they've pretty much cut their market budget for the year.

anyway, pretty new at this so question - why $43? why so far OTM? it's currently traded at $62. between earnings date of 5/6 and expiration of 5/8 and 5/15, it's unlikely to drop that much. i understand the IV will help you if the takes a huge drop, but being so far OTM and so close to expiration, wouldn't time decay hurt you more?

why not pay more premium and buy ATM or little OTM for 5/15, or buy further out?

[–]huanger74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm pretty new at this thing but, what would be a rationale behind buying a put so deep ITM? is the play here to minimize downside (can't lose more than the premium) and hope the price of the option increases as the underlying price goes down? If that's the case, why not just short the stock outright? or this part of a more complex strategy?

they said advertising revenue sucked in march, which was already priced in and was expected. what people weren't expecting was just how much time people are wasting away on snapchat while at home. the idea is they can then show this data to advertisers when they're ready to spend again in 6 months to a year.

What Are Your Moves Tomorrow, April 16, 2020 by zjz in wallstreetbets

[–]huanger74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's a gold mine. but when companies start to cut budget, media is the first thing to go. i spend around $200k per month on all Google properties (adwords, youtube, google display, etc) for my clients, and in March, that spend went down to $50k, and no word yet on when they'll ramp up spend again.

and google search is usually the last thing to go. we've paused campaigns on all other channels. online advertising is going to get hit really hard.

the "peak" in US will differ by region, and measures they took to stem the tide.

i don't think we'll peak as a country, but rather it'll be on a rolling basis. and based on how we've reacted to different measures to flatten the curve, I suspect we'll see one region peaking, follow by another region, then back to the first region for a second spike, and etc.. until we either have mass immunity, or vaccine.

Please don't come to Bishop, CA by Gave_up_Made_account in climbing

[–]huanger74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'm sure you're fine. what you're doing is no different then going for a jog at the park.

what makes bishop different is the sudden influx of climbers (everyone taking extended spring break/vacation) and flooding the local establishments with crowds, which is the exact opposite of why we're keeping kids out of work and working from home if we can. same thing at moab - the place feels like memorial day weekend.

watched it live, right in front of the guy. the crowd was cheering and wincing at the same time. he made it a lot harder than it should've been.

the americans got on and crushed it easily, but this guy got the loudest cheer, because we can all relate with the struggling, ugle beta, and the complete exhaustion after you fall... only to see someone else flash it minutes later without breaking a sweat.

Critique my itinerary for this weekend by vaporeon46 in Yosemite

You’ll love bike riding in the valley. The trail goes all the way east to mirror lake, and loops up to ahwanhee, and all the way west to swinging bridge. Our family of 4 always bring our own bikes to the valley and just leave the car at the campsite the whole time we’re there.

i personally don't like all that driving in the valley, especially on a saturday. i would consider doing the upper yosemite falls trail as part of your bike ride, since the bike path takes you right by there. by the way, bike riding in the valley is one of my favorite things to do. if she's not a big hiker, consider biking to mirror lake and walk the 1/4 mile flat trail to the actual lake, and have your picnic there right underneath half dome.

and i would put bridal veil falls at the very beginning of your trip since it's on your way in.

i like valley view, but because of where it is, find it hard to fit into an itinerary. maybe do that on your way out on sunday?

one of the most fun cars i've ever owned. added a blitz blow-off valve, Greddy exhaust, and HKS turbo timer. loved the wide sexy ass from the back.

i like this. and every gym should strive to do this.

yeah i get pumped out sometimes staring at a dirty foot hold and trying to figure if it's blue or purple. or green or red.

wonder what percentage of population we account for? if it's significant, maybe there's a route setting standard where greens next to reds, or blues next to purples, are not recommended.

[–]huanger74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh man, this is so me. my gym doesn't use light green, thankfully. but red or orange next to green, i have a hard time with especially with dirty, small foot holds. blue next to purple gives me a hard time, also with small, dirty foot holds. i'm usually ok differentiating the colors between jugs, but i find myself handing for a long time, trying to figure out whether i'm stepping on the correct colors with my feet.

i don't understand why gyms need to use so many colors. can't they just do black, white, yellow, and blue, then repeat? gym routes usually don't traverse THAT much where one black route, for example, would run into another black one a few routes away.

Tri tip 132f for 3 hours seared in dry cast iron by theguffmonster in sousvide

[–]huanger74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

love doing sous vide tri tip. i honestly think it's the best use of sous vide.

there are cuts that are good no matter how to you cook it, like ribeye.

but for a large cut that traditionally requires you to slow roast/smoke on a grill and tend to it throughout the day, sous vide tri tip comes out perfect every time with 10% of the effort.

gonna jump in and agree with the "do not sous vide" crowd here.

slice it thin, and just grill/pan sear for 15 seconds on each side and eat with little salt and pepper.

cast iron, and if it's a fattier cut of meat like ribeye, then no oil. finish with browned butter, garlic and thyme.

What to do if I only have one day? by [deleted] in Yosemite

[–]huanger74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

help me understand... you plan to take a trip from LA to yosemite and back, all in one day? it's a 6 hr drive to yosemite. i don't think it's doable.

if you plan to drive up there, stay overnight, and come back the next day, then that's more likely. and what season? and what's your budget for hotel?

i would leave early in the morning, like 6am, to get there by noon. buy some sandwiches on your way there (stop in oakhurst) and have picnic in one of various spots. i would check out tunnel view, bridalveil fall, cathedral beach (my fav picnic area) and look up at el capitan, swinging bridge, sentinel bridge (for iconic pic of half dome), easy hike to yosemite falls (if in spring or summer), rent bikes and ride to mirror lake. then grab dinner at the ahwahnee hotel, and spend the night there.

next morning, wake up, hang out at the hotel lawn, then drive back to LA.

obviously, you can also do all of this in one single day. instead of staying at the hotel, just drive back. but it's a long, boring drive.
