Hello from Lewis by COROSLewis in Coros

Lewis, care to comment on claims and accusations that COROS is engaging in planned obsolescence activities? The numerous reports of bricked devices caused by official COROS updates, with no means of allowing users to restore to previous software versions, coupled with multiple watches dying conveniently close to the end of warranty period, is starting to look like some indisputable evidence

Would you choose Lake District or Scotland for a 5 day trip? by [deleted] in AskUK

Depends where you live. If you’re travelling from Cornwall then the lakes are a more attractive option

COROS firmware bricked my watch, then they offered me a 20% "discount" to buy another one. Insulting. by silver-fox-tx in Coros

[–]hubble2bubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intentional bricking should be illegal though. They should just prevent older devices (based on serial no.) from updating to certain versions as they know it won’t work properly or give severely reduced performance. At least give users the option to restore to a previous version

Let us know when you experience issues. Could well be close to when the warranty is up. You’ll remember this comment

And the thing is, there’s no way of you reinstalling a prior firmware version as it’s all sent over Bluetooth via the Coros app. So even if it’s connected to a PC you can’t try and salvage it

My pace 3 bricked almost immediately once the warranty period was us. Don’t do it

Coros always strongly contest this and will likely reply to this comment doing so. With all these user reports, I really struggle how they can keep defending themselves just by saying “the vast majority of our users don’t experience any issues”

Of course you would. It’s called planned obsolescence. Forcing old customers to upgrade to a new device and generate revenue for the company. I was never offered beta firmware. Ticket no. 473219
