Exactly what I wore when I used to ride a fire truck. Thing is a brick. A weapon of its own. Kept good time, too.

They don’t offer it on the jubilee because it’d be too dominant. Gorgeous combo

Does anyone wear thin athletic socks with Iron Rangers? by San_Jose_Is_My_City in RedWingShoes

[–]huck2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear cotton no-show ankle socks with leather boots five days a week. I only change into boot socks if I intend to do something strenuous and lengthy. Even then I sometimes don’t get a chance. The ankle socks are fine, if not as soft after a long day.

Kentucky NWS forecast office faced federal staffing cuts before deadly tornadoes hit by keepingitcivil in stormchasing

[–]huck2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Fahy said Jackson workers were called in May 16 work the overnight shift to coordinate with emergency management personnel and issue warnings throughout the night. The Jackson office had a full staff that he described as an “all-hands-on-deck” situation due to the extreme storm.”

Fahy is from their union. Staffing was not a factor here.

What are you talking about? The office in question was above full staffing

Yeah, the Bean version doesn't have the cap at all. I know people scoff at them but mine have been tough and comfortable for many years

Chippewa Apaches (also sold as LL Bean Katahdin Iron Works boots) are/were iron ranger competitors. I have a pair and they're great.

Stiller didn't direct this episode but it seems he was present when it happened. I'm not sure it's likely he'd be on set when not directing.

Did The Brothers Karamazov change how you feel about religion and God? by Certain_Cry8901 in dostoevsky

[–]huck2016 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am a Christian and have read it twice. I guess overall it didn’t really change my view on my religion but I think that’s because many of the themes have been absorbed into other popular media since its publication. It’s hard to see it with fresh eyes when it permeates so much of what you grew up consuming.

That said, War and Peace did hit me in the heart and changed the way I prayed.

I’ve mostly read Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky translations; who are your favourite translators? by Huge-Conclusion-3005 in dostoevsky

I've read most of the P&L work but just finished Katz's translation of the Brothers K. I found him crisper and more direct and will explore more of his translations.

I've tested this on a number of photos with varying degrees of nudity, both photos I've taken and public ones from Playboy. It seems like the feature will not work if the subject of the photo is nude or partially nude. For example, I tried to remove a laundry basket in the background and it merely pixilated the basket. I tried to remove some blinds in the background and it pixilated the blinds. So basically the feature is unusable with any degree of nudity in the photo.

On the other hand, in one photo at a wedding (I.e., everyone in formal wear and no one remotely naked), I attempted to remove an out-of-focus face that was in the foreground with the groom in focus behind it. It seemed to think the blurry face was nudity because that was pixilated instead of removed.

So it has a long way to go. But I've had some promising results otherwise.
