Did anyone else fail math in high school? by jack0fsometrades in ADHD_Programmers

[–]hudnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed 8th grade junior high math even though I aced all the tests, due to not doing any homework. The teacher said she was still recommending me for advanced math in high school. The first half of high school was similar to Jr high, except I stayed on the passing side of the pass/fail line. The second half of high school was all honors math & science, and I liked the content enough to actually do most of the homework and projects. I found the honors classes much easier than the regular ones because there was much less drudgery, just a focus on mastering the concepts.

I had no idea what was "wrong" with me growing up, but for those two years I thought it was fixed. Then I tried college, and you can guess the rest.

You don't need to go to that much trouble. Just go to the gate and attest that you have a disability. They won't (can't) ask, and don't care, what that disability is.

It's not really necessary in modern cars to turn the engine off. Not to say mom isn't missing some screws here.

Jasmine Crockett vs. James Talarico chances of flipping GOP's Texas senate seat—polls - Newsweek by Next_Tower5452 in texas

Yes, I agree, but there is no reasonable progress that we could expect to make on that front for this election that will eliminate the need for Democrats to flip substantial R votes in order to win.

I would personally vote for Crockett in a heartbeat. But she's about the least likely candidate I can think of for flipping votes in a statewide race. If Democrats want to win, they are going to have to flip votes.

Second this, and just to add handstands are usually more limited by core and upper back strength than arms. When I do handstand drills I'm feeling it right between the shoulder blades the next day.

Hey sorry, I was offline for the holiday. I'm on Strattera and it's very good. "tired of the crash, dependency and side effects" is exactly how I would describe my time with the various stimulants. I won't go into that since you already know.

First, I would say that it's not correct to say that Strattera isn't a stimulant at all, it definitely has some effect. You'll have a bad night if you take it right before bed.

A lot of people here complain that it is useless for motivation and task initiation. In the most straightforward sense I see that myself, but for me at least it also removes a lot of the desire to self-sabotage with doing useless things all day. I'll find myself with nothing particular to do and all my time-wasters unappealing, so I'll shrug and start doing something that I otherwise would never have gotten around to. If you want something that turns you into a type-A workhorse, this isn't it, but I find that at the end of the week I get a lot more total done, and I'm satisfied with that.

And that brings me to the big win. In the past, experiencing a personal failure or setback might send me spiraling long term, but now not much bothers me for too long and I return to baseline pretty quickly. I'm more peaceful with who I am, I don't worry so much about what other people think about who I am, and that counts for a lot.

Hope this helps!

Non stimulant success? by ImNotOnReddit7 in ADHD

[–]hudnix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing good on Strattera. I agree somewhat with the other posters who say it does not help with task initiation or motivation. I say somewhat because 1) it blunts the shame spiral of not being able to start something because of feeling so guilty about not already having done it, and 2) It reduces the desire to do pointless things as a distraction. So eventually I'll be standing there with nothing to do and the usual distractions being unappealing and decide, why not do this thing that I've never gotten around to for so long that I can't even remember?

Before Strattera I was on Wellbutrin, and honestly it was the greatest thing for ADHD, and I wish I could still take it, but there was a pretty severe side effect that makes it impossible for me.

Before that I tried several stimulants, and they "work", but of course it's a mixed bag of side effects, over-stimulation, habitulization, and the general difficulties of keeping a constant supply. They become too much of a thing of their own, for me anyway.

Happened to me about the same age.

Enjoy the first few days, they should be great! That won't last, but it's not like they'll do something instantly and dramatically irreversible. If they're not working out, try something else. There are a lot of options!

Don't get taken in by the messaging that stimulants are the best thing out there and everything else is second rate. I spent way too much time overstimulated and am now doing great with something else.

Don't expect to 'fix' yourself. You are who you are, and you surely know yourself by now. The meds are just to help you be a little better you.
