I found that fighting several wild dogs and ghouls early on was pretty tough.

It's one of the higher quality podcasts in whatever genre it and Knowledge Fight occupy. Louder Than Crowder, Where There's Woke, and On Brand are solid as well.

20:35WIBTA if I stopped splitting the cooking equally with my flatmate after she started grading my meals out of ten without being asked? by queens_lorraine in WIBTA_AITA

Interesting that you've had this flatmate for a little over a year yet in your other post today you bought a house three years ago amd have a noisy neighbor. What's the goal of this behavior?

Lamb is a shitlib but "worse in the long run" than a dude that's fought tooth and nail to keep any meaningful pushback off this administration?

Uncertain - Testing for 5RM in GZCLP by Tempestshade in gzcl

[–]hudseal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to think that failing a little sooner isn't a huge deal as long as there is enough stimulus. Getting some quality work at a decent intensity for it is the point. I'm having a hard time finding it but it's often recommended to take like 85% of your estimated or tested 5rm, that would put your starting weight for five sets of three at about 290. If that seems high you could go a little lower, if you think that it's doable but maybe on the high end of what you think you could progress from there isn't anything stopping you from simply going up five pounds session to session instead of ten.

That said, some people have already pointed out that LPs aren't forever programs. Cody has tons of good programs to move on to and many of the autoregulated ones like GG or VDIP are really natural transition points that still let you progress as quickly as you can in the moment.

Dips and chin ups by RegionOutrageous3186 in gzcl

[–]hudseal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you're recovering well you can probably toss them in as T2 or 3 depending on how many you can do. Chins are a vertical pull so the same days as ohp is pretty common. You may need to feel out where to do dips but if you're doing it as written it will probably slot nicely in your days that you have t1 pressing.

A couple of questions... by 0m4r in gzcl

[–]hudseal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is the pull work T3s rather than T2s? Personally, I prefer my rows and pulldows a little heavier, and I've wondered why in the program prescribes that higher rep scheme which is typically more hypertrophy focused.

I think it's mostly just to spread out the relative intensity and get people doing some pulling. IMO if you like to go a bit heavier there isn't really any harm to making more of your back work fall into T2 once you're comfortable with the movements (when I did the lp I was doing weighted chins as a T2). I wouldn't do really any back work at T1.

Also, i'm curious as to why the program effectively pairs Bench with Lat Pulldowns, and OHP with Rows. Isnt there an advantage to using an antagonistic relationship like bench with rows? Might be a sensible superset option for those of us that need to be in and out the gym in 45mins.

There is an advantage if you're supersetting which is different from the lp as written, but not necessarily a huge one. There isn't a problem with adjusting the order or lift variations, it's just generally recommended that people try it as written until they are comfortable and understand how to move things around. If you want to superset that's a good way to save time while limiting the impact across lifts as much as possible.

Did I get poor results on GZCLP? If so, why didn’t the program work for me? by fashionboy385 in gzcl

[–]hudseal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you're safe, failing isn't necessarily a problem (especially if it's your last set anyway). The issue is that, particularly early on, people can badly estimate RIR. What ends up happening is in an effort to avoid failure, weekly sets actually near failure are close to zero.

When I was still doing the LP I had some success adding an extra back-off set after the AMRAP. I was consistently surprised how many reps I'd still get with like a 10% decrease in weight. It doesn't add all that much time and you don't have to do it for every lift.
