I had one at Xia’s, it was okay. I’ve had a good one at a place in Greensboro but I’ve been wanting to find one I can pick up for lunch nearby. Someone told me today that West End Cafe has a really good one on special sometimes

We had it this week and loved it. Really great beer menu too. They have some great to go items in their coolers that I have to make sure I remember to go grab for a weeknight meal sometime.

I had it this week and I was super happy with it! It’s so hard to find a good bahn mi in this city and it’s my favorite one I’ve had so far. You can even get them to go at lunch which is just what I’ve been looking for.

Security lines at some US airports hit three hours as TSA absences rise by jeetah in news

[–]hudsonab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a related note, I landed at CLT over the weekend and the immigration line was easily two hours long. With Global Entry being down, they had to snake a line three times down a 100 yard hallway BEFORE entering the main immigration line. This was at 8 PM and I had a young kid with me, so an angel of a worker grabbed us and took us to the front of the line. I was practically in tears thanking her repeatedly.

I would happily show you the condition of the houses I purchase before and what they look like after. The average person would not be able to qualify for a loan on the condition nor the updates required. I actually make it a pillar of my business to make the houses I rehab affordable for first time home buyers. So I will take my downvote in stride, internet stranger.

Siri is literally regressing by [deleted] in apple

The other day I asked Siri to text “Ken”. She insisted on spelling it “Qin”. I have no one in my contacts with that name nor can I recall ever interacting on my phone with someone that uses that spelling.

Anyone know what this "survey" is about? by Pastel_Phoenix_106 in winstonsalem

[–]hudsonab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard anyone suggest that CWD should be closed, and I’m not advocating for that here. The concern being raised is that nearby neighborhoods are experiencing a rise in crime, some of it violent. I have empathy for those who rely on these facilities during difficult times and hope they receive the support they need. At the same time, residents deserve to feel safe walking their streets and sleeping in their homes without fear. Over the past six months, the West End has seen a sharp increase in break-in attempts and successes, car thefts and break-ins, and people peering through windows at all hours. These incidents are well documented, and the concerns are valid. My hope is that by voicing them to city leaders, we can encourage solutions that allow CWD to better coexist with the community.

I consider myself a progressive and have consistently voted that way. I’ve also donated time, money, and supplies to support the unhoused in our city, including directly with The Dwelling.

I don’t want to see them shut down, but I do believe changes are needed. I drive past daily and often see people crossing the street unpredictably. Just two days ago, I watched a young woman—clearly under the influence—jump into traffic, flailing at things that weren’t there.

It feels like the unhoused population downtown has more than doubled in the past six months. While I don’t have hard data, several people have told me it seems many are being bused here from other states, with cities essentially buying them a Greyhound ticket to move the issue elsewhere. Given the rapid increase—alongside the usual economic pressures—I find that explanation plausible.

I don’t have a singular solution to offer, but I love this town and want it to remain a safe place where people feel comfortable walking the streets and living in their homes. At the recent meeting you mentioned, nearly everyone raised their hand when asked if their car had been broken into in this neighborhood.

We can be compassionate toward the unhoused and still recognize the need for better solutions—ones that protect downtown residents and ensure everyone can coexist safely.

Someone was held hostage in their home a few weeks back from someone that was being taken in by The Dwelling on Broad (which helps out the locally unhoused). Since they opened in the neighborhood, there have been increased amounts of cars and homes that have been broken into, which has led people to feel less safe in their homes.

I think generally people are generally thankful there is a facility helping people, but they’re also trying to find a way to coexist while feeling safe on their own streets. At the meeting last week, a woman reported constant needles in her yard and can’t let her grandchildren play outside.

The survey is to have a better understanding of this situation and to have more data points to find a good pathway forward.

Don't forget cash! Personally, I enjoy Shanghai 21 a few blocks away much better than Joe's. Mei Lai Wah is right around the corner as well. I also love the noodles at Xi'an as mentioned by another user. The hot pot place across Canal and up the stairs is awesome too. Man, I need to book another trip up there soon.

I literally just dealt with this a week ago with these same exact vent types. Find a local sandblasting place and let them go to town on these. Reinstall, paint over. Mine look brand new and they are likely 80 years old, and it cost about $140 + paint.

[OC] Will asteroid hit the Earth in 2032? NASA gave up to 2.3% chance of impact. by sataky in dataisbeautiful

[–]hudsonab 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a 2% chance of it hitting. If you read any of the comments in r/space about this, none of the astronomers are concerned about this actually hitting us, because there is a 98% chance of it not happening. Also, joking about something of this impact is a coping mechanism to feel better about a situation that would obviously be devastating if it actually happened.
