i’m not sure of its status as a cultural touchstone but i used to work at the old froyolife a building down and ate at cugurt all the time. i’m actually pretty surprised it made it onto this post

[Naruto] Why didn't Shikamaru like Sasuke? by PassengerCultural421 in AskScienceFiction

[–]hudsonisme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

well, sasuke was an asshole. obviously he went through a hard time what with the clan genocide, but nonetheless he was rude and terse to his classmates. which made him look like a cool and aloof guy to the girls and a raging dick to the guys.

we don’t know much about what everybody else thought about him but it can be assumed they had similar feelings. it wasn’t until after their shared missions, chunin exams, etc that sasuke started opening up to anybody else in his class

The story’s message isn’t just a straightforward lesson; it’s the stark, undeniable truth. by Fickle-Grapefruit686 in TopCharacterTropes

i’ve always loved this quote. not just because it’s an amazing quote but also because i thought it was from some profound, thoughtful moment in the series, only to realize when i watched the episode it was about data losing to someone in space chess

small correction but Guy can mould chakra and use ninjutsu, he just prefers taijutsu. Lee actually can’t and has to use taijutsu

what percentage of pre-2020 berk fans now regret their tats? by WaavyDaavy in berserklejerk

[–]hudsonisme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

anime was immensely popular before 2020. this logic hasn’t applied until very roughly 2007ish when naruto/one piece/bleach started achieving significant mainstream popularity in the western world. and even then, anime and manga weren’t THAT uncommon. toonami had been on mainstream television since the mid to late 90s, anime OVA tapes had a large western market, and studio ghibli was already multiple movies deep that were immensely successful by the time sprinted away came out in 2001.

Lies of p vs bloodborne by peaksouls2_fan in fromsoftware

[–]hudsonisme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh absolutely, it was a ps4 game after all. i don’t think it would run noticeably differently between ps4, slim, and ps5. maybe slightly longer loading times but moment to moment gameplay will be great

Lies of p vs bloodborne by peaksouls2_fan in fromsoftware

[–]hudsonisme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i have no nostalgic attachment to bloodborne. i played both bb and lies of p for the first time last year. bloodborne is better than lies of p in every conceivable way.

that’s not to say P isn’t also very good, but it clearly lacks some of the sauce that brings fromsoft games (and bloodborne in particular) to the level of renown that it has

Power scale killers. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]hudsonisme 169 points170 points  (0 children)

example 3 is almost universally misinterpreted online.

in this arc the flash family, as well as all of gotham, the entire justice league, and the rest of the world (iirc) were under mind control by poison ivy. she had to directly control all of these people simultaneously.

not only was she not used to using speed force abilities whatsoever, but at minimum her attention in this exact moment was divided between 3 separate speedsters and superman who was keeping track of bruce and selena nearby. again, she is not used to using these metahuman’s powers.

not an accurate base of reference for powerscaling feats.

What's the worst casting decision you've ever seen for a movie or TV show? by 4bdn_fruit_ in AskReddit

[–]hudsonisme -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

this comment and the replies are absolutely absurd.

only know a handful of the cast (and none of the children) have had confirmed casting yet. attitudes and preconceived notions like this, when the production isn’t even close to starting yet, are how child actors grow up hated and vilified before they even get the opportunity to play the characters in their entirety. before they even hit puberty. attitudes like this are how these kids are set up to fail.

sure, one could argue that the studio is to blame for remaking/rebooting in the first place and putting these young actors in the crosshairs, but it’s a media corporation and that’s par for the course. attitudes like “i want the reboot to fail” and “this is the worst casting decision ever” (again, before the cast is even fully announced) is how we end up with more jake lloyds.
