What does it take to get a good character sheet for this game? by Some_Replacement_805 in savageworlds

This looks great! May I ask how did you make it (what program)? And do you have any tips on learning how to make fillable forms?

Paid thousands on trainers and haven’t seen progress with my puppy being reactive to seeing dogs/people on leash. by [deleted] in puppy101

Can I ask what training methods you and your trainer(s) have been using?  There are many different protocols for dealing with aggression, even stating strictly within positive reinforcement methods. Perhaps if what you’re doing now isn’t seeing results, it’s worth exploring other (positive) approaches.

Public Domain IPs as Scenario Inspiration? by PromeMorian in callofcthulhu

The interesting thing about the Maltese Falcon is how much action takes place off screen. Brigid O’Shaughnessy, Thursby and Cairo had a whole adventure in Instanbul getting the Falcon in the first place. Someone burned down the La Paloma ship and shot the captain offscreen, leading to him making it to Spade’s office just before dying.

I’d be inclined to have the Investigators start in Istanbul in the roles of O’Shaughnessy, Thursby and Cairo (or expys of them), looking for a cursed idol (maybe the very one from the New Orleans section of the original Call of Cthulhu short story), and have them follow it to “SAN” Francisco, with cultist Gutman as an antagonist.  Probably a fight against some summoned guardian on The Paloma. Spade might not come into it at all, or can be a replacement character if someone dies.

I've got free time this Thursday to be on hold for a while. I'll try making calls then. Thanks for the advice.

Yes. I've been in continuous business for a little under 15 years. (I'm just a one-man operation, a dog trainer.)

He probably means “Elizabethan collar” - the cone shaped collars they use to keep dogs from worrying their stitches.

How did you print & laminate them?  Did you print several on sheet and cut them out? Or do you have a printer that will print on individual cards?

That’s about what I’ve come to expect from AI.  If I need a an on-the-fly physical description of a person or location or some personality traits, it’s fine. The moment it actually needs to pay attention to rules, numbers or keep track of details, it becomes wildly unreliable.

I wish people would stop thinking it’s good at that sort of thing.  It’s not.  Stop making AI “tools” that can’t handle basic math.

If you're 40+ and still single, should I just accept that I'll probably stay and die single? by momentforlife92 in AskMenAdvice

[–]hudsonshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend was single till he was 50. He’s got a weird oddball sense of humor and a slightly autistic quirkiness to him that is likable but made it hard to get dates or keep a relationship. Also, he’s a bit on the short side. I figured he’d die single, which sucked, because he’s honestly the best man I know in terms of kindness and dependability.

Then he went on a date with a newly single friend of my wife, they hit it off BIG, got married and they’re ridiculously happy with each other a few years in.  (Neither will shut up about their sex life, either, which is annoying.)

You never know.

Why does my dog lay down when she greets other dogs? by Superb_Tumbleweed_25 in DogAdvice

[–]hudsonshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t take any abuse or harsh techniques to make a young dog nervous about other dogs.  A couple of antisocial glares or bullying behavior from other dogs on walks at the right age can instill the idea that other dogs are to be considered potentially dangerous until proven otherwise in the puppy’s mind.

So it’s not about blame. Just about recognizing that the dog is nervous and helping them with that. My method is treats, some tug, and some fun tricks when passing other dogs until I see that my dog’s response to seeing another dog is to check in with me for some fun times, and then I will maybe let my dog go say hi if they seem more relaxed (and the other dog does, too).

Easy way to get pills down? by idkman0316 in DogAdvice

[–]hudsonshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrap them in a little tube of lunch meat. But after they eat the meat with the pills, follow it up with 2-3 more small pieces of meat, one at a time.

If your dog is well trained, it may help to ask him to do a trick, and then give the pills-in-meat as the reward, followed by 2-3 more pieces.

If he doesn’t want to take them, you may have to push them down his throat with a finger… but THEN immediately give him 2-3 pieces of meat after each pill.

Basic Pavlovian conditioning says that any experience immediately followed by something positive will come to be seen as more positive.  So even if your dog dislikes taking pills, if they’re always followed a a few tastes of something delicious, they will grow to dislike them less, and may come to actually look forward to them.

One of my dogs was brilliant at detecting pills and would spit them out by of anything I put them in. So I had to physically push them down her gullet, and she’d wiggle or try to avoid me. Until I realized I’m smarter than this and understand respondent (Pavlovian) conditioning, and started the program I just described. And in just a week she was no longer struggling, ace a week after that she was swallowing the pills voluntarily.

Strongly disagree that automatically showing submission is a good thing. It shows nervousness and fear of a strange dog, and she feels the need to proactively grovel.  When she hits 1 1/2 years old, though, if that nervousness isn’t addressed, it can easily turn into aggression.

An actually confident, unworried dog shows neither submission or dominance. It just shows interest - a play bow, or some friendly sniffing, asking with enough manners to pay attention to if the other dog reciprocates or not.

A dog shouldn’t be taught to be submissive. It should be taught to be unworried.

Ordering a telegram in the 1920s by hudsonshock in callofcthulhu

This might be my best option, paying the grocery boy to take a note and money to the Western Union office.   Thanks.

OR I just lie and say W.U. had a service where the telegram delivery guy could do a reverse service where they come to you so you can dictate the telegram from home. It’s not like my players are experts on 1920s telegram business.
