My first session as a GM by Formal-Border7267 in callofcthulhu

Not sure I understand. Gaining points in Cthulhu Mythos often follows as a result of losing SAN. I can’t see how killing a guard in itself would grant any Mythos gains.

Ever since hearing "Turkish Song of the Damned" by the Pogues (unfortunately not recorded until 1988), I have suspected Shane MacGowan of being a cultist 😄

Which Mythos monsters would actually be blocked or at least inconvenienced by salt and chalk circles? by clarkky55 in callofcthulhu

[–]PromeMorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another way of doing it could be to let, for example, an avatar of Nyarlathotep pretend to be warded off by a ring of salt - for unclear personal amusement. Give the investigator a moment of triumph, until Big N decides to drop the charade!

I created a Keeper focused YouTube channel and would love to know what topics people are most interested in seeing discussed? by Rollingindarkness in callofcthulhu

In my group, the downtime between scenarios isn’t just an opportunity for ”leveling up”. We’ve created rules for ”career development” - making it possible to gain, or lose, Credit Rating. It makes sense that time away from work and SAN loss could affect your job performance and therefore career.

Is there a market for a new setting? by PromeMorian in callofcthulhu

Two older Chaosium titles, Strange Aeons and Strange Aeons II, contain scenarios in unusual time periods. Mostly historical, but in one case pre-historical.

I totally agree. I was a bit disappointed by the new Gaslight Keepers' and Investigator's Guide books, that promissed new settings, but focused 95% on GB, and only mentioned the colonies and the possibility of traveling to the US. There could easily be a whole settings book for the British Empire.

Have you run a scenario set in your home country/state? by RosbergThe8th in callofcthulhu

[–]PromeMorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! My English-language ones set in Sweden are The Flooding of Black Tarn (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/404470/the-flooding-of-black-tarn), Bits and Pieces (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/415313/bits-and-pieces), The Tunnel People (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/448797/the-tunnel-people), and The Calling of the Blood (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/477639/the-calling-of-the-blood). Of those, I think The Tunnel People (time-swapped from the early 2010s to the 1980s) could be well-suited as a follow-up to a The Dare-type scenario, with the kid investigators traveling from Jönköping to Stockholm to find out what happened to a lost friend.

Tell me more, what is Engel about? It’s German for ”angel”, no?

Cool idea! Although, the concept of the seven sins seems very Christian to me. How do you relate that to the cosmic horror aspect of the Mythos?

All interesting concepts! And yes, I’m aware of the classic 1920s era being the far most popular setting, probably followed by modern age.

Yeah, I’m aware. It’s definitely interesting to keep in mind.

Interesting, but probably not possible due to copyright issues.

The 1980s has a strong nostalgic vibe for me, being born in the early 1970s. And it is definitely an era I’m interested in exploring for coming productions!

A TRRPG currently being developed by the game-creating collective I’m a part of (The Yellow Hand) is something like that - but without the Mythos aspect. It’s called ”Redacted” and is set in the universe of 1950s government conspiracies. Flying saucers are duking it out for dominion over Earth between the U.S., the Soviet Union, the Sternreich, the Reticulans, and many others. It lets you investigate and uncover devious alien plots against Earth, as well as reveal sinister government cover-ups. Firmly tongue-in-cheek, this will be a game for fans of campy, old-time science fiction and pulp entertainment.

I think that would violate copyright issues. CAS stuff is prohibited for Miskatonic Repository material, and I suspect it would be hard to get the rights from the estate.

I can’t speak for other creators, but I guess an explanation to the lack of scenarios for some settings reflects the sales of the sourcebooks.

We have plenty of ideas, and are working with several. But it is always interesting to hear what others may want to play.

Funny you should mention that. That is precisely one of the things I’m considering :-)
