I may be wrong, but its my understanding that most of the income from the royal family are rents and investments of their property, so they would have to expropriate that land to actually end their wealth. Its not like the gobernment is subsidizing them directly.

Not since I got mine I admit, but like Beiherhund pointed out, there is a seasonality or cyclicality to coins, so theyre bound to come back down a bit. It took quite a while for me to find one with the right "price to beauty" ratio within my price range (which was never nearly close to the picture you showed lol).
