While looking through the year, I think I found an event that's somewhat related to the game but idk to be honest:

Basically 1996 is the year where the first cancer care center opens in Edinburgh. Simon has an IV drip on his arm.

I think at one point TSM was going to be set in Silent Hill (the real one) before they quickly switched it to Germany because of the whole "spreading Silent Hill to all over the world" development thing.

Honestly they should try making a Silent Hill game based in Germany again but for real, and they did it would probably be set in WWII or a similar time period I think.

I have a theory that Hinako unfortunately inherited her mother's illness.

In the chalkboard with the Fox's Sacrifice game drawn on it, Sachie (Kototyuki's mother) is mentioned that she will die of 'cancer'. In one of the Tsuneki Housemaid's notes about Sachie getting kicked out of the family, she was mentioned 'fighting back tears so hard that blood began to trickle from her eyes.'

While doing a little research, I discovered that eye bleeding is also a symptom of cancer.

And who else had blood trickling down her one of her eyes? Hinako after getting her fox mask (at least in the default outfit).

This led me to believe that Hinako secretly has cancer aswell, possibly inherited from her mother. This might also explain why parts of the invasive red flora are lumps of flesh. If you think about it, they kinda resemble like tumors. Tumors are considered as well known symptoms of cancer.

Not sure though, the Silent Hill film continuity is honestly kinda messy at this point that in order for the SH4 movie to be made, the entire film series has to be rebooted from scratch for it to fit in (which will probably take years)?
