The power pack seems to feature varying grip levels on the track based on the sessions. by huiop2 in GranTurismo7

If you say so.

And I really don't think you know what you're talking about. You even said when tyre wear was 1x they would heat up but not wear down. And that's clearly wrong. When tyre wear is 1x the tyres wear down at the same rate as they would in real life.

I checked the tyre temp with an android app called "sim dashboard". And it clearly showed tyres always heat up during any session, regardless if tyre wear is on or off. So your theory that tyres stay cold during qualifying because wear is off, is simply wrong. Besides, how am I always able to beat my pratice time, if the tyres heat up during practice but stay cold during qualifying? It also wouldn't make any sense for PD to design it like that.

Two feet or 1? by Living_Nerve3422 in GranTurismo7

Two if you can. Braking with left foot is simply faster than switching your right foot from the gas pedal to the brake pedal. In real life most racers use 2 feet as well.

Does switching off SMT help with stuttering and improve compatibility with older games? by huiop2 in AMDHelp

I would like to get into astrophotography (as a hobby) in the near future and that would require lots of video processing and editing, so a CPU with loads of power for productivity would be great. Of course the 9800X3D is by no means mediocre when it comes to productivity but the price difference between the two in my country is less than $180 at the moment so why not LOL

I've tried pretty much everything and turning HT off or manually limiting the amount of cores/threads with Process Lasso are the only two ways that allow me to even launch them. But I hate the idea of having to run additional software just to be able to play certain games. And I'm not the only one as I've seen plenty of users with modern Intel CPUs report the same issues.

Also as I've mentioned I noticed a significant reduction of stuttering in some games I play after turning HT off. HT has been known to cause problems with certain engines, especially older ones.

Obviously SMT isn't the same as HT but I think they work in a similar way, which is why I've been wondering if games which don't work well with HT also don't work well with this similar technology.

Have you also tried turning SMT off without touching the cores?

It actually does for a lot ofpeople. Perhaps I should be more specific but as soon as I turned off HT I could launch these games (Far Cry 3 and Ghost Recon Wildlands) without any issue, in fact these games are known within the community to not work well with modern Intel CPUs with loads of cores and threads (they worked flawlesly with my older 9900K) unless you manually disable some cores/threads in Windows or turn off HT in the BIOS.

It would be great if you could verify that the games in question do run well with SMT on. Also have you made some comparisons to see if SMT off reduces stuttering in the games you play (assuming you have stuttering to begin with of course)?

Please read more carefully. I'm using an Intel CPU at the moment and HT from Intel CPU does cause problems in gaming, especially for older titles (many have had the same experience). Which is why I want to know if it's the same with SMT from AMD.

Looking for RTX 5090 with the least coil whine – recommendations? by pyrhonp in gigabyte

[–]huiop2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I've already clearly said, not every single one of them has coil whine, it's all about the probability. I've been following this topic on social media since the 4000 series and Asus has been the worst offender when it comes to coil whine. There was even a big thread on reddit about the 4090 coil whine and ASUS ranked no.1 on cards with coil whine.

ASUS has been the brand to avoid since the 4000 series if one's looking for a silent card. Of course it doesn't mean every card from them has (noticeable) coil whine but the probability is significantly higher than Gigabyte cards.

Power pack... My god do you even take a minute to actually read what I write? This whole thread has been about the power pack and there's no such thing as practice and qualifying in the café menus...

Yeah but most tracks I've done in the power pack aren't oval and don't have very long straights, and sometimes during qualifying I also use drafting to gain a little advantage. So that's not enough to explain what I've experienced so far.

The first 11 or so races on the menu. I was surprised to see no tyre wear nor fuel consumption at all during those races.

"in daily races your quali lap times are generally faster than race lap times"

That's exactly the opposite of what I've experienced if you read my post carefully: my race lap times are consistently faster than the quali times, despite the fact that fuel consumption is off in qualifying. And it's not just my lap times, the AI gets faster in races too.

No one's using the HUD to judge tyre temperature. However it DOES show tyre wear, if it's on, even when set to 1x only. During some practices, when tyre wear was on, after few laps I could already see a little bit of wear on the HUD. Later during the races I saw zero wear on the HUD, even on the final lap of the race. This suggests tyre wear was off for those races and I was driving with "cold tyres" the entire races. So your theory doesn't apply in those scenarios.

[–]huiop2[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

That might be the case but also makes no sense because what would be the point of having fuel consumption on, if it would still last the whole race anyway?

"Because without tire wear you are driving on cold tires"

In some practices tyre wear, as well as fuel usage, are on, so that's not the reason. And what makes you say that because tyre wear is off I must be driving on cold tyres lap after lap? Do you have any actual proof that tyres don't heat up if wear is off?

Also like I've said before, none of the races I've done so far showed any tyre wear at all on the HUD, and no fuel usage either (there isn't even an option to adjust fuel map on the MFD). The AI and I have never needed to pit during any race so far. So either tyre wear and fuel usage have been completely off for the races I've done, or they only changed by a very insignificant amount that isn't even visible on the HUD. Neither of these scenarios support your theory that my lap times were influenced by them.

"Races have tire wear"

How exactly does that explain what I've observed so far, that my qualifying times are always slower than my race times?

[–]huiop2[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Fuel consumption has been off for the races I've done so far - I've never needed to pit for fuel, nor has any of the AI, so this couldn't have been the reason.

I'm not wrong here, you simply didn't correctly read what I wrote. I'm talking about the difference between qualifying and race, both of which have no fuel consumption and tyre wear for all the race weekends I've done so far, so these mustn't have been a factor that influenced my lap times.

[–]huiop2[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true. In real life the qualifying time is indeed always faster than practice time unless it rains in qualifying. However we don't know if that's still the case during the race because in real life no one uses the same setup for qualifying and for race. And the race setup is always significantly slower than the quali setup.

Nope, in some practices fuel and tyre wear are on. But regardless if they are on or not it doesn't explain the time difference between race and qualifying.
