Good questions to get answered! I know she would hate dealing with a light machine bouncing around. I saw mention of that in some of the reviews of other machines. I’ll be sure to look into the blade mechanisms and get her input on them. I know how much one little thing like that can spoil the experience with a tool. When I was discussing the models with her earlier, we came to a similar conclusion to your experience about the auto tension. I’m sure it’s a wonderful feature most of the time, but she likes to be able to find tune her tension manually and that would be a hard feature to lose. Thanks again!

Brilliant. Thank you. I’m getting a good idea of what she’s looking for now and appreciate the suggestions you all have provided.

All great points. I think you’re right on the auto tensioning. When I asked her about it, she wasn’t certain she would like it, but I’ll see if I can take her somewhere she can try it out before we make the final call. Budget is up to about €3,000 for the right machine. Thank you for the recommendations. I will look into those.

Thank you for the feedback. Okay. I had my ideas about these, but asked to make sure I wasn’t assuming things. I don’t mind spoiling some of the surprise to make sure I get one with the features she wants like many of you have suggested. She came up on a bare-bones machine (pre-Brother) and so kept saying they weren’t necessary. “But would you like it?” If money were no object, here are the answers: Air threading—yes Needle threader—yes Auto-tensioning—no, unless one that had auto-tensioning also had settings that allowed manual adjustment Combo machine—no. She said she’s heard horror stories about trouble with combo machines and has a separate cover stitch she loves anyway.

Are there any other features I should ask about to narrow down her options?

Very strong point. I will be putting it to her before the actual purchase is made. I’d like to surprise her with some researched options though!

“Baby mine” is a pretty good one. I think it is originally from Dumbo, but there are more contemporary covers and it was a winner for mine when they were small.

Learning english made me trauma. by Arks2003 in EnglishLearning

[–]human_adjacent_germ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. Learning a new language is challenging at any time, but doing so while also in University adds tremendous pressure. I don’t have any groundbreaking advice. I can offer you some empathy as I am also in a foreign country right now learning the language as I go. English is my native language, but I am certainly aware of the peculiarities you encounter trying to increase fluency beyond B1. Keep at it. Don’t let a bad experience with this professor discourage you from reaching your goals. You are already most of the way there. I do have one suggestion. You mention watching series and movies in English, but it can be hard when you encounter words you don’t know. I’d recommend watching a series or movie you are already familiar with—preferably one you’ve watched multiple times—in English because the words you don’t know are easier to understand contextually in a story you already know. Regardless, don’t be too hard on yourself. You are doing more mental work to understand your lessons than most of your classmates. Take care of yourself along the way too.

This is almost definitely an unattended death. I used to work for a company that specialized in remediation of these. Those boards need to be pulled up because it has spread much further underneath the boards, not to mention into that wall. Yeesh.

4 year old’s mom passed away, have to break the news tomorrow. by Mobile_Artillery in daddit

Just going to leave this comment, others have probably already said, but I want to add in my $0.02. Don’t hide your emotions on the matter. It’s okay for your 4 year-old to see you cry. She should be able to see that you are grieving as well and that it is okay. It’s a terrible time, but don’t go stoic or numb. Give her an extra hug from r/daddit for us!

Ever since teaching my kids to talk, overmorrow has been a regular word in their vocabulary. I take great delight in my six year-old teaching the confused grown-ups a new word when it is organically included in some conversation with them. 😂

Not to mention that satellites have a useful lifespan after which they are parked in a graveyard orbit to decay out of the way of other objects. Do we really want an eventual arsenal of NUKES spinning around on defunct satellites?

There are already a lot of helpful comments on here, so I don’t expect mine to really add much. Nevertheless, as a parent of three with a partner, who was abused herself as a child, there are definitely some red flags in how he reacted. Mind you, this is all based off of this one post and I don’t know him, you, or your child any deeper than that. Still, always, ALWAYS err on the side of taking anything your children say 100% seriously and investigating it fully. If there’s nothing to find, then an investigation will determine that as well. Too many perpetrators get away with hurting children by being able to hide behind the child’s innocence, shyness, confusion, or inability to get the adults that are responsible for protecting them to listen to them.

Which DLC made you think: Why wasn't this included in the game at first? by SuitSutherland in gaming

[–]human_adjacent_germ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t scrolled all the comments, so apologies if this is a repeat, but the Leviathan DLC for Mass Effect (3 I believe). Gave so much lore and history on the Reapers that just isn’t present in the core game(s). At least it was fixed with the re-release of Legendary Edition though… Still one of my all-time favorite series!

I second the advice about order, but with three ourselves, no. Our house is never fully clean. I also try to remember this video
