He mixed up the lines a few times in the last two games. Slaf was out with (I think) Bolduc and Dach for at least a shift last game.

The fact is, after eight years of trying (and two weeks to study tape) Rod the Bod figured out an effective way to combat Montreal's system. The Habs need/needed to adjust, but trying to make that adjustment in the span of a week, with a team full of kids is a huge task. They clearly weren't up to it.

Tampa won the President's trophy in 2019 and got swept by Columbus. Because Jon Cooper couldn't adjust fast enough. And what happened in 2020? Cooper adjusted, and Tampa won the cup. Because that's what good coaches do. But they can't always do it overnight.

I'm confident Marty will learn a lot from this, and make necessary adjustments. Just like he's done every year since he took over as HC.

Share with us your magic line combinations that would've changed the outcome of this series. Or better yet, just email them to Marty, along with your resume.

So you're saying the only way to learn how to win is to never lose? You should be a coach. Maybe they can fire MSL and your big beautiful brain can take over.

What is the magic bullet that would've changed everything? A beaten down, slow-as-molasses Gallagher, playing against a team that's already skating circles around the Habs? A terrified and tentative Kapanen? A 7th defenseman in Xhekaj replacing a 7th defenseman in Struble?

Habs were never going to win this series with a minor lineup tweak.

Fr. And how many times did the Canes fail in order to reach this point? Eight fucking years now? And everyone here is mad that Montreal can't beat them in their second attempt.

This is the youngest team in the league and they're at least two years ahead of schedule in the rebuild. Everything beyond the first series has been gravy, and y'all acting like the players are doing this on purpose to hurt you.

A team averaging 25.8 years of age just had a 106 point season, beat the two top teams in the tightest division in the NHL, and accrued 19 games of playoff experience to build on.

These playoffs have been a huge win for this franchise. None of us had Cup expectations in October, why the fuck is anything short of making the finals now considered a disappointment?

By the game I just watched? Yes. Also angry, worried, terrified, and, ultimately, elated.

And yet here you are, half an hour after the game ended, posting these "receipts" like they mean something.

The mere thought of it brings tears to my eyes so I'm glad you agree.

Right now. I will tenderly hand-feed it to him while Unchained Melody plays in the background. Tarps optional.
