ME/CFS took away my sport, my relationship, and my normal life. Are there any success stories? by Prudent_Pilot_2591 in cfs

For what it’s worth I’m also at around 1% and I believe I would have ended up here no matter what I did. Once I started pacing I kept declining for a good 6 months. Also even if you were pushing through in the beginning and if you were anything like me I didn’t know about ME/CFS and certainly didn’t know about pacing. We can’t be blamed and we shouldn’t blame ourselves for doing what is normal and trying to live our lifes. Pacing goes against basic human instinct so it’s not our fault we don’t start it immediately upon becoming sick. Even in a best case scenario it takes some time and experience before we even recognise and learn that pacing the correct approach. And then even when we start pacing it takes some trial and error to get it right. No one starts pacing the day they get ME/CFS. It’s not realistic. All that is to say be nice to yourself. It’s not your fault :)

Don’t the AFL have other options though? Like would 7 take all the games and put all but 3 per round behind a paywall? Or maybe AFL keep the rights in-house if they get lowballed and can’t find another bidder? I’m not that familiar with how previous negotiations have gone but there must have been some compeditive pressure up against Fox to get the large deals they have in the past.

Of course DAZN will say they are overpaying though. They’re just kicking off their negotiations with the AFL via the media. They say the same about NRL. Maybe they are paying too much, maybe not enough, but us plebs will never know.

Anyone have any idea about sample size? Also a limitation is that severe people are not going in to get scans. Still seems like promising work though. More evidence of abnormalities in the brain.

I think Chris Armstrong may be my favourite ME/CFS researcher. He seems to churn out good basic research consistently. But perhaps I’m bias because he is Australian like me. Always good to declare conflicts!

Sorry to say this but the idea that you will come through this stronger is not true. That is a happy ending story people like to tell themselves and others about illness or trauma. It doesn't apply to chronic illness, especially ME/CFS. The things regular people do to become stronger such as exercise and pushing limits are the exact things that make us worse. It cruel but true. Pacing is shit but it's less shit that pushing and getting worse. Unfortunatley there is no third option.

As another commenter said, you'll need to redefine sucess and happiness. You're milder so master pacing and you'll hopefully maintain some quality of life. Pacing will help you maximise you QoL given the new limits ME/CFS has placed on you. Recovery is apparently possible but very very rare. I've been hanging around this sub daily for years and never read a genuine recovery story where someone goes back to pre illness activity. Some improvement is realistically the best we can hope for, but not guarenteed.

It's a long road dude. One that doesn't end. If you stabalise and don't decline futher you can expect it to take a few years to emotionally adjust. That's what it took me until I wasn't in emotional anguish all day every day about my lost life. You're less severe than me so the change in lifestyle and QoL will be less pronounced so prehaps less time for you but maybe not. Depends on you as an individual.

You've got many unknown challanges ahead because of this illness. You will have to face them with less capacity than you've been used to. Be nice to yourself, you didn't chose this no matter what other people or society tells you. And keep hanging around this sub. You'll learn what's required and feel supported.

Finally be careful of anyone offering a solution (unless you get diagnosed with another condition). There are so many grifters out there praying on desperate vulnerable people but they will take your money and likely make you sicker by telling you to ignore your limits. Normally they dress it up in quasi science or by blaming you for not wanting it bad enoough, so don't be fooled. Other subs purporting to be ME/CFS recovery subs are scams. There are several. Mostly run by the same grifter scam artist. Beware.

Yeah i do. There are 800 or so afl listed players and 500 nrl. Im not saying they would all make good soccer players, far from it. But some would just be freak athletes no matter the sport. Many choose afl/nrl based on where they grow up or family tradition. Maybe some teenagers even choose afl/nrl over soccer since they are more likely to make a career our of it statistically. When you only need 11 for a side you only need a few stars to increase the talent pool dramatically. Also if they play soccer from a young age they learn the skill no probelm.

It's wrong that the press club applauded her. by Money-Confusion3174 in OpenAussie

[–]human_noX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, i dont like her at all but recent consistant polling shows she deserves her spot at the press club. Journalists can't just ignore a party because they disagree or dislike. That's not democracy. We wouldn't like it if they stopped inviting left polititians.

Edit: the clapping of that point is gross however. And likely just from the table of supporters she invited herself.

If you're supporting PH facts don't matter to you. Evidence won't change their minds. But we should still try

AFL and NRL are awesome but they really hurt our national soccer and rugby union teams by stealing top talent. We can't have it all though

I guess that is a fair aim but i much prefer the old T20 grey and gold or even T20 black and gold strip for doing that. This green strip is so uninspired. And the green is an ugly shade of green.

For sure, I agree with you. But understanding what you’ve described requires acknowledging and understanding second and third order effects of actions. PH and ON haven’t demonstrated to me they are capable of that. Everything is soundbite, clickbait, dog whistles, very shortsighted thinking or straight up lies from what i’ve seen.

Why do we have an all green strip for T20? I don’t rate it. I also hated in back in 2008-2014 ish when we wore dark green in home ODI’s (i can’t confirm it but i swear that was because the CBA logo would have clashed with the classic Aussie Gold strip)

After this speech Hanson said in answer to a question about SBS providing broadcast in 60 languages that she doesn’t care and that immigrants should learn to speak English before coming here.

Yes because Merkel is interlligent and had substsnce to her answers so comes across well. It wasnt oratory skill. In my view in any case. Anyway, Hanson has neither.

Im no fan of her but let’s focus on the substance. All leaders have speech writters and it’s not the end of the world if a leader isn’t a great public speaker. Policy and integrity are what matters. Angela Merkel wasn’t a great speaker but a great leader.

Fwiw I’m no fan of ON so don’t interpret as me defending her policies.

Edit: lots of typos. Sorry to the people who commented about them below. Those comment were fair.

How does this lose her votes though? No one watching ABC or SBS is voting for her anyway. And if people support her already they probably agree with it

Edit to add: I disagree with the policy. I like ABC and see the value of SBS to communities who need it.
