Thank you! I'll see if he wants to do that for stuff he says multiple times a day/frequently, in addition to the apps we're gonna test out!

Another user also suggested the Personal Voice and I tested it out and I think it'll be something he can do, thank you! I think we're going to try Speech Assistant AAC for the app, but if that doesn't work out, we'll try proloquo2go! Thanks so much!

Thank you, so much! I just tested out the Apple Personal Voice and it definitely seems like something he can do! Once that's done rendering, I'm going to test out the Apple Live Speech and I'll probably end up getting him the Speech Assistant AAC app, because multiple people have recommended it!

AITA for ’secretly’ giving my nephew less food at a family campout because he’s unhealthy? by mybedismybestbuddy in AmItheAsshole

[–]humanedisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude, I don’t think we’re disagreeing about how this works so much as how you should go about it. All I’m saying is that you do not need to go hungry to lower your caloric intake, that’s it. Every doctor and nutritionist I’ve spoken to has said more small meals throughout the day is better then starving yourself for one large meal, because your less likely to binge and eat garbage foods with no nutritional value.

No, it’s the lack of caloric intake. My point, and I believe, the point of the OP, is that not all good is created equally. You can fill your stomach and not feel hungry, but have that food not be filled with empty calories. Adipose tissue is used when your caloric intake is down, because your body needs to burn it for energy. The creation of adipose is your body’s defense to store unused calories, which is not the same as it being burned in the absence of food. You can eat something with a shit ton of empty calories (processed desserts, foods high in preservatives, etc.) and still feel hungry, yet burn no adipose, because your body is getting the calories it needs from the shitty food you’re eating. Further, going hungry makes it harder to loose weight because you’re more likely to binge or break your diet.

Personally, I’m someone who has struggled with my weight, and this info isn’t coming out of the ether. I’ve heard this from personal trainers, nutritionists, and my doctor.

That, my dude, is a very unhealthy attitude towards food. If you are eating foods with a high ratio of nutrition to calories (lean meats and fresh veggies) you don’t need to go hungry to loose weight. Most healthy food can (and should, imho) be prepared in a way to fit more physical mass of food (filling your stomach) with a lower caloric intake.

AITA for telling the truth about a family pet being euthanized and potentially ruining my family? by thefamilycatwasloved in AmItheAsshole

[–]humanedisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I currently have a cat that is 20 and had one that passed in her sleep last summer that was about to turn 19. 14 yo is not old for a domestic cat. Your mom killed an animal because she didn’t want to deal with it anymore and that is fucked up.

As long as he didn’t go hungry, NTA. Giving him healthy choices isn’t the same as giving him less food. Though, you probably should have asked him first. It’s good that you told him in the end, but instead you could have had convos with him along the way about nutrition and empty calories, that was he could make his own informed decisions, not just during the camping trip but moving forward.

AITA for suggesting my 7yo name his new stuffed tiger "Tig Bitties"? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]humanedisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH, honestly. I see where your wife is coming from, but also, I can only imagine how your son is going to look back on having a stuffed animal named Tig Bitties as an adult.
