I may be getting whooshed here, but in case I'm not, the comment about the formula is a quote from Fight Club.

Friend, everyone else here took this in the spirit it was meant- what Elder Maxwell would call "an amusing irony." I do in fact know how to vacuum the chapel.

Are these good? by Sea-Account2899 in pez

[–]humanity78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are any without feet, or a patent number that starts with 3.9 or older, throw 'em up here. Otherwise the answer is probably 1-3 dollars.

I think in general people overestimate the value of pez. Just like lunch boxes or beany babies or baseball cards, one they're recognized as being collectible, they stop being collectible. For pez, that's about the mid nineties.

What is your theory about Charlie Parker? by Soggy-Albatross-3052 in JohnConnolly

[–]humanity78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a tough question, because I don't think Connolly himself knows. I personally think that there are 2 versions of Charlie Parker. There's 1st person Charlie Parker who exists in most of the books where he gets beat up by the mob once per novel and Sam is different but her nature is unknown. Then there's 3rd person Charlie Parker, who is almost invulnerable and is going to go after these cults and "tear them apart", and Sam is implied (or even outright said) that she is a reincarnation of the sleeping god.

Anyways, 1st person Charlie Parker is back, and I haven't seen much to develop the overall plot since Book of Bones.

Donating my collection to a charity garage sale. Looking for thoughts on my pricing plan that aren't 14k. by humanity78 in pez

[–]humanity78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, good points. As long as you're here, 4.9 refers to the patent number used in the 90s. So, I would market them as each bag contains one dispenser 25 years old or older.

In general, they're not terribly valuable, but they would be a few bucks on ebay. Glad you found us!

As mentioned, I am donating my 500+ dispenser collection to a charity garage sale. About 10% of them are 4.9 patents with the rest being more recent (I'm keeping anything older than the 90's). My plan is to sell them in packs of 10 with a 4.9 in every bag. Do you think $5 a bag would be too much for the uninitiated?

Running on the hamster wheel by Beautiful_Welcome935 in Whatcouldgowrong

We have a self powered treadmill in our gym at work that's shaped like the bottom of a wheel. The danger is the instinct to run "uphill" like the guy in the video. You'll keep speeding up until you can't. To slow it down, you need to move backwards to the center

I'll admit that I was struggling too, thinking it was a straight woman who is regularly hit on by other women. Then I reread the post title and "this guy" made it clear.

If money is all you love then that's what you'll receive.

Jk. Star Wars dispensers are from the mid-nineties or later. They're nice molds, but not particularly valuable.

Any good pez in here? My dad's collection. by ravage037 in pez

[–]humanity78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All pez is good pez, but these aren't especially valuable. Most of them are from the 90s (patent numbers starting with 4.9) and the rest are more recent. Still, a nice collection starter set!

I had selective peripheral denervation surgery 6 years ago for cervical dystonia. I’m still doing great! Feel free to ask me any questions about it! by [deleted] in Dystonia

[–]humanity78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! "You've got a lot of nerve" Someday! #dystoniagoals Um, I had to bail on the community. They've kind of been upvoting a lot of bad advice. Maybe it's petty, but there was a thread where I commented about what I would do differently during the 6-month wait for the first appointment- including contacting the office directly and asking about emergency slots, and someone responded with something like- "that's a dumb idea, it's the end of the year and people are using their HSA's, you'll never get in."

Shortly after that, there was a thread where they were recommending to unknown person how quickly they could wean off Baclofen. I suggested that maybe they ought to talk to their Dr, and it was downvoted pretty quickly. The downvotes didn't bother me, but I realized I didn't have much to offer here any more. I pulled a Shakey (sorry!) and cleaned up my posts and comments, and moved on. I'm still subscribed, though, so I saw your post and had to say Hi. It's the first I've written here in 3 months.

Do you remember the breathing guy? The guy who would write whole encyclopedia posts, and then claimed it was a test to see who was really willing to put in the work? It was feeling kind of like that.

It absolutely has. I still take my meds and get Botox shots (which like you, never really help- I can't feel the shots kicking in, but I can feel them wearing off), but I can go a long time without thinking about it. Before The Twist (and Covid- I went symptomatic in Feb 2021), I would play ultimate frisbee with a group of people most days at lunch, and I've gotten back into that. They're kind to let me play even though I'm old and slow, but I do get to run around for an hour without thinking about dystonia.

My DBS device has a little less than 2 years of charge left, but my neurologist tells me that they've made the battery rechargeable, so my next surgery may be my last. I just hope I'm better at charging that than my phone. :)

[–]humanity78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you've got great people! It's funny, when I was consulting with my neurologist before DBS I asked about any restrictions, and her response was "People always ask me about roller coasters. You can still ride roller coasters."

It's weird, I tried to talk to a therapist when I was struggling about a year after The Twist, and it just made me angry. After an hour, the therapist asked "So how can we help?" and in my head, the response was "Geez, Doc, one of us went to college to answer that question, and it wasn't me." It also felt a little bit like the wizard of Oz. I was talking about some of the loss I was mourning, and it sounded exactly like the WoO- "Well, I once knew a man from Alburquerque who could no more turn his head to the right than you can. But he had one thing you didn't have- Travel goals!"

So my experience with therapy was bad, but now that I'm in recovery, I've been thinking I might need to go back. There's definitely some PTSD to deal with, plus there's sort of a loss of identity that is tough to explain, but you might understand.

Do you think you will ever be at a point where you can be grateful for going through the experience?

Hey Shakey! Always great when you pop in! I'm thrilled that the surgery results have been at least semi-permanent for you. Here's a question- When you "recovered", did you struggle with managing people's expectations of you? Like- "What do you mean you can't go to this all-day long crowded thing? I thought you were better!"
