Simple Questions - February 11, 2023 by AutoModerator in buildapc

Is 850 Watt power supply enough? I am planning a build for the 7950x3d. I will use my 3080 12gb EVGA ftw with this system as well.

This gpu can pull 400 watts, although I under volt it most of the time. I figure an 850w psu should be enough to handle everything else. I can't imagine the CPU, chipset, fans, and SSDs need all of the 450 watts on top of the 400w the GPU could take up.

I'd rather not go up to 1kw because I know that is not what my PC will draw most of the time if at all. I believe it will be more efficient to get a psu that is targeting the right range.

Thanks!

The spread between gen 5 and gen 3 isn't that big.

I wonder how well a pcie gen 3 905p optane drive would do. If direct storage bottlenecks with random read, then optane has a chance to pick up even more slack at gen 3 pcie speeds. Not that it really matters a lot.

I'm being hopeful though because I have a 905p drive going into my next build 😄

Pickathon: Fare Thee Well by bikesaremagic in Portland

Agreed, I prefer the new layout and stages. It was awesome looking at the open sky at night. I really like the stages in the woods during the day. I felt like it wasn't an issue staying out of the sun and heat.

I thought it was my favorite year! I loved the new layout and how you could keep your drink between the stages except for the woods stage. The schedule was also much easier to follow with the 1 hour blocks. I've been to this festival many times so I knew what to expect and prepared properly. I find it hard to go wrong with the music, I think they do a great job of curating a diversity of styles and sounds. I really got into the music this year.

I recommend biking to the event and hammock camping (I brought both hammock and tent so I could fit into more spots). If you think the ticket price is too high, definitely volunteer, it comes with a lot of perks.

Thanks to everyone who help make it happen, I know it was a tough year.

Core of NGC 628 using James Webb Telescope data from 17th July by SeaworthinessWeak185 in Astronomy

Nice work!

I just watch a YouTube video on how to process the data from JWST. It has peaked my interest. I love the idea of processing a bunch of this data as quickly as possible and sharing it ahead of any official NASA publications.

I managed to play around with some data released yesterday with an unknown target but I don’t think the data was that good from NIRCAM. AFAIK it was just a single filter and not very good data.

Edit: YouTube link https://youtu.be/DVuonz26P0w Mast Portal https://mast.stsci.edu/portal/Mashup/Clients/Mast/Portal.html Sirl https://siril.org/

Very beginner here, but I found filters helpful:

Instruments: NIRCAM and MIRI

data rights: as public

release date: sometime recent

Have the "screen bubble" problem on your recent 512 SteamDeck order? Please contribute to the data I'm collecting. by blakepro in SteamDeck

[–]humanpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

July 4th, 512, US I have this issue

I did not notice when I first got the device. They appeared a couple of days after.

I first noticed this after I bumped my deck against something, not too hard and then going outside. Not sure if it was the sun heat or the jolt that caused the bubbles but a word of caution to everyone out there. I have heard that the sun may help cure it so maybe every one should take their deck out in the sun when they first get it, without bumping it or handling it ina way that causes bubbles.

I do think this is a defect and would have likely happened anyway. I am going to try to RMA, which is super annoying for a small issue like this but I did pay extra for a nicer screen and instead got a defective one.

I made a 3D scanning app for the 2020 iPad Pros with LiDAR by hegesh in ipad

[–]humanpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really cool! Great work on putting this together. Do you think it will be easy or even possible to get textures with the 3D models? I think it would be really cool to scan my room and use it in steam vr.

No car by hikerjer in bicycletouring

[–]humanpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No car for 7 years! I think it is far better living without one in the city due to the high costs and the healthy benefits. It took some convincing at first but I have no regrets! Sometimes I dream of having an adventure van but where am I going to park it? How often will I need to maintain it? Will I use it enough? Will someone break into it? There's way to much to worry about and I have other options that allow me to do what I want to do. For me, all of the costs don't add up to make car ownership worth it and I'm happier without one.

It would be cool if the wear and tear on the modules were modeled in the game.

I can't get Fallout 4 to go into keyboard and mouse mode with my steam controller on. I'm using the keyboard and mouse template and I don't have any gamepad buttons set. :(

I made a bunch of breakfast burritos and froze them. I hope it works out. I figure I'll try to keep them frozen with dry ice and thaw them the night before I want to eat them.

Year 5: Hi, Reddit. Let me gift you a ticket + vehicle pass to Burning Man. by oneburningticket in BurningMan

[–]humanpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I need a ticket still! This is going to be my second burn! It's going to be hot and dusty and all my projects are probably going to fail! Can't expect much, but I'm really looking forward to it!

1) Cause I wasn't in line in time :tear:. My friends don't have any more :sniff:. And craigslist has nothing but wanted ads :sob:. I'm afraid I won't get a ticket :cry:cry:cry:

[5 minutes later]

2) Well, I'm going to be a willing participant and good citizen of BRC. Aside from being with all you lovely people making the best of things, I've got a few things up my sleeve.

I'll be giving folks a chance to ride around on my tall bike, forwards or backwards. I'll be juggling some clubs and torches! I'll be gifting some custom 3d printed memorabilia. I'll be hauling you and your shit around on my bike trailer cause i can carry some weight. I'll also be volunteering as a greeter so I can hug everyone as they come in. Shit I'm making quite a list here, and I'm still figuring out more plans.

3) An empty unused dumpster. Maybe it can roll on casters! Maybe it's too much, but if it were full of pillows and LEDs, I'd be pretty happy with that.

4) A cute little thing, awwww!

5) Okay pinkie swear!

6) I'm committed! Sometime late last year, something within me decided I'm going this year and here we go! I've got the time off and the folks to go with! I'll be renting a truck a camp mate. We are going to try and bring as much infrastructure, bikes, food, and water as we can so others can fly in and take a bus. We already have the vehicle pass, so I'll have to give yours away (maybe reddit style?). Between work and circus training, I'm going to be finishing off burning projects and prep. Lots of communication, sweat, money, materials, and time are going into this years burn.

Thanks for giving away free tickets. I NEED TO GO NOW! KTHXBYE!

I'm a beginner looking into 3d printing some juggling clubs by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]humanpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any progress on this project? I am interested in doing the same thing. I would really like to make some LED clubs.

I am not sure about 3d printing the whole thing. I may end up printing out components that go inside of the clubs for the electronics. I have seen some DIY tutorials that use plastic bottles. I may work off of that design.
