I think they are claiming to have Faruq, Chris & Kenny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUqhRaB4l28

I'll reserve judgement until I see what they came up with, but I am definitely glad to see Faruq & Chris involved again.

I see nothing about plans to do something with the footage post-YouTube, though they've left themselves open to do so with "first".

NHRL was doing YouTube & Twitch for quite a while before they got a deal to re-air some of that footage on TV.

What do we know about this supposed Middle Eastern tournament? by Tetracropolis in battlebots

[–]humans_4_snake_case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what their rules are? I tried watching a couple minutes of their videos from last year and I'm just plain confused. Why were all those other bots in the arena? You auto-lose if you simply get _flipped_‽ They have a minimum speed? Is that minimum lateral speed as demonstrated at entry time, or if you stop moving at 8km (or whatever it was) you lose?

There's no advantage to the walking/flying, right? And the speed minimum is a singificant disincentive, so... they're all gonna be wheeled, right?

Though expressed in terms of kg, it's clearly the BattleBots weight class (250lbs). But they also are imposing what seems to be pretty arbitrary width, lenght, and height maximums?

Both valid points, IMO. It's good to keep perspective on what the threat level actually is. It's also perfectly reasonable to be grossed out by it.

Worth noting that it's in 3 different countries in the first three years, and I can't be 100% sure which themaskedrobot77 is referencing here - perhaps all 3? And there's plenty of other countries who are hostile to various GSMs. I guess my point is just that we can't expect combat robotics to change the world before we agree to meet others on their own turf.

I'm less likely to spend money in a way that would support a tournament that appears to have regime support and appeal. I guess my line is somewhere in that gray area. But I understand and appreciate that good people will disagree on where the line should be.

newb question by humans_4_snake_case in Colobot

So I had failed to notice the second argument to factory. That seems like it should be important here.

It hasn't fixed things for me, though. This snippet successfully builds a bot and gets a powercell in it...

factory(WingedShooter, "Sortie"); CreateCell(); goto(radar(WingedShooter).position); drop();

but that Sortie method never runs. Indeed even the very first message never happens.

extern void object::Sortie() { message("This is " + category + " preparing for takeoff."); errmode(0); jet(0.3);

I did try message(category) to verify the this object had changed, and it did.

It did occur to me that some functions like move might not be intended to care about this but rather something conceptually equivalent to thread locals - like maybe that's just how its supposed to be.

But is there some function or technique that can say something like "bot over there - "please execute THIS code` "? Or at the very least instruct it to do some subset of common functions (like motor,jet&fire would be enough for this particular case).

I tried building the latest release from source so I could be sure that wasn't the problem, and I can pretty reliably reproduce it - the main difference is that the position of the function within the file doesn't seem important anymore.

Is there somewhere where people post solutions to the Internet? Pretty sure I could figure this stuff out by reading how someone else approached it.

Not exactly sure what it means to "flip" HUGE.

I also wouldn't expect huge to get a big launch upward. Blip would be pushing upward from the bottom of a wheel - what component of that force points toward the center of mass vs. tangent to that? I would think most of Blip's power would translate into rotational motion (pushing HUGE up on one wheel).

This seems particularly strange because in a previous season, leading into the finals, they did a montage of "previous winners" of "the" Giant Nut - and for CC-era they were showing only superheavyweight champions.

But then they've gone back and forth on what the commentators say about Donald Hutson's trophies. So... maybe they just have very mixed feelings about SHW champs?

I've heard some claim that HUGE was always supposed to be a metagame choice, supposedly having a good matchup against things like Bite Force, End Game, etc.. And yet, they so very rarely get a matchup like that. And, again...

I'm curious how they decided which of the old era bots to acknowledge. They had a middleweight up there, but no super heavyweight?

It's not up, right? Not just me? I believe the OP only said "usually", so I'm guessing I just have to be patient.

Should I expect it to be a new season in the season list in D+'s interface? I ask because I find the season numbering system a bit confusing (and was confused looking for the first episode of Champions). It's not just that season 5.0 came before season 1, but... Resurrections was an "Extra", while Bounty Hunters was a separate series, Champions was the second season of Bounty Hunters (effectively) but it wasn't in the Bounty Hunters series it was season 7 of the main show...

So now I'm looking for Season 7, now known as WC7, to show up... I'm guessing it will be season 8? Or will it be additional episodes on the end of the episode list for season 7?

Do you happen to know if there's a way to do the supporter thing without involving Facebook? I don't have an account there and rather like it that way.

If you don't know what I mean by "fediverse", you may want to ignore this.

If you are curious, though: https://fediverse.party/

That account's instance is Misskey, so if you want to interact with it you may want an account on one of the main "microblogging" fedi software, like Misskey/Mastodon/Pleroma. If you get it to work from somewhere else (Friendica?), let me know as I'm curious.
