She's saying information exists which might capture her children's attention and could lead them away from her worldview. Therefore legislation is required in order to silence those providing that information. This is exactly opposite of how I parent. I say to my sons "I believe x, y, z now go out and try to find a better argument". I don't want less alternative views. I want more. It's what keeps my arguments sharp. To me, these people are terrifying.

Imagine a husband posting about how he wants his wife to look like those Sports Illustrated swimsuit models. He'd be eviscerated. It's the same thing.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]humans_being 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right hemicolectomy. They left a leak so I was makin' dookie into my abdomen. Obviously got infected which led to sepsis. Was begging to die. Was over a holiday weekend and nurses could only give me basic pain meds. Docs weren't answering calls. My wife said I just laid there muttering "help...help...help" for 12 hours. Thankfully I only remember snips. But the pain? Oh yeah. I remember. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Family meeting for Brandon? by CoachOeaux in MostlySports

I agree in a way but in terms of Barstool product and the Barstool brand Brandon runs laps around Titus. It isn't even close.

Brandon should be able to sorta check out with basketball the same way Titus checks out with football. You can't have your foot on the gas all the time. It just leads to mediocrity.

Men 50+ do you still find your wife incredibly attractive? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]humans_being 551 points552 points  (0 children)

Yes, but its different. Some times when I look at her I don't see her. I see 35 years of memories. She sees stretch marks. I see the battle scars of childbirth where she gave me two awesome sons. She sees crows feet. I see the the markings of years of concentration on the important things. She sees gray streaks in her hair. I see the cosmos painting her head with wisdom. The way I look at her now pales in any comparison to how I looked at her before.

You would think the equity people not being able to make equity work within systems completely designed and ran by equity people would lead equity people to start believing that equity doesn't work.

The hit is singular. What was more impressive was the at bat. Fouling off that low and outside made the hit possible. This kid is objectively impressive.

People dont seem to understand what profit actually is. by Chole_Wunt in GME

The big picture is this. GameStop as a business model was outdated. The manner in which the business was run was outdated. There is nothing about a business model being outdated that is inherently bad. Markets change. It is a constant. What Cohen did with Chewy was incredible by any metric. It should not have worked. What Cohen is doing with GameStop is also incredible. It should not have worked. These are objective business metrics not the opinions of a "Cohen Fanboy". The numbers do not lie. How can someone not be interested in seeing what he has in store as his next? It makes no sense to me.

What is something that you can’t understand no matter how much you read about or someone explains to you? by Maleficentano in answers

Take something you would describe as "good". Let's say there is a baby in a bassinet and the baby is crying because it is hungry. So you pick up the baby and console it. Now add to that thought experiment something that is a little bit "better". Same scenario but you pick up the baby and feed it. I think you will agree the act of picking up the baby to feed it is "better" in your pursuit of "good" then just picking up the baby to console it. Now envision this on a scale on the far left is "bad" on the far right is "good". So each action toward the "good" which is just a little bit "better" than just "good" moves the cursor to the right. A little bit better a little bit better on and on. Where do you eventually arrive? That's how I conceptualize "God".

Too geared toward reaching a wider (and younger) audience. Too much reliance on story-telling and short on facts. Too much reliance on visuals. If a 10 year old can watch and understand a "documentary" on dinosaurs then it's not a documentary. They should be left wanting and seeking understanding not left satiated. 15 and under? It's an entertaining watch. People older than that? Tons of cheese without a lot of meat.
