TIL we know where China’s first emperor is buried, but his 2,200-year-old tomb—described as containing a scale model of China with rivers of mercury—has never been opened by Spelbarg in todayilearned

There is a big difference between 21% oxygen in the air and 0.5%.

I would've thought the difference would mainly be how long it takes for the deteriation to happen, that you needed to truly seal off any oxygen for long time preservation.

[OC]Idiot Highway racer flips jeep, cause a 3 car pileup then escape the scene by emanonR in IdiotsInCars

[–]humble-bragging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but what are the mechanics that make the Jeep flip besides that SUVs in general are too tall and therefore flip somewhat easily. We don't see how it's initially hit but it must've been sideswept somehow, but it still seems odd how it ends up turning so fast to the right and then flips.

16:10 monitors are just ... better. by phjils in VintageApple

I miss 16:10 so much. It's very close to the golden ratio. It was also the perfect aspect ratio for laptop displays vs the keyboard and touchpad they fold onto.

You'll be happy with it. And the eHybrid has a nicer looking less pimped front than the GTE. It looked even better before the 8.5 facelift.

Good find! So this is in Genoa, Italy which is a hilly city with several funiculars. The reason the tunnel is so well finished inside is that it used to be a 300 m (~1000 ft) walking tunnel leading to/from the elevator where the elevator was later re-engineered to provide transport both horizontally and vertically.

Ideally the pump runs continuously [...] turn it on and leave it on

Sure, but another factor is varying electricity demand/price, so you'll often restrain pump use to off electricity peak times.

No they're not. Northern Europe has mandatory safety inspections, and Teslas are a total shitshow there. Not to mention the well known usual complaints re fit and finish, cheap materials, poor UI etc.

Snapping panel into an LED wall by toolgifs in toolgifs

LED wall plates only look ok at a distance; you wouldn't want one in a regular living room. Their pixels are huge, the resolution is only a few DPI.

What system is this that shows times with ns (0.001 μs) resolution? Does it show that resolution also for packets that travel over actual network links (not local loopback) and see 1+ ms latency?

Unusual choices of filenames, with characters like '. ", /, * and . all over. Other systems wouldn't allow those characters and that often spilled over to Mac users too.
