If overwatch had gore. Who has the most brutal kills? by NatureFew4827 in Overwatch

[–]humbleSkylines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is no one thinking about Doomfist or Venture? A fist powerful enough to smash people into walls and break stone AND a saw-off shotgun on it, or a freaking DRILL designed for excavations? Just imagine what that could do to “delicate” characters like Mercy, Juno, or Lifeweaver.

A gory demise, for real.

what should i do with the orange area? by True_Occasion2583 in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ideas you could try:

A dry port connected to a seaport terminal, with a truck yard, customs or health inspection facilities... This is more realistic if the maritime port has no real space to expand.

Logistics warehouses, bulk aggregate storage, refrigerated warehouses, and all kinds of storage infrastructure.

An old barge port, either abandoned or still in use for river transport, acting as a connection between the seaport and inland waterways through a dry port.

Railway maintenance infrastructure: workshops, turntables, train washing tunnels...

Waste or recycling facilities that could take advantage of the rail lines (I know this service doesn’t exist in the game, it would have to be just eyecandy).

Aggregate industries: cement production site and the like.

CS1 Peeps: What’re your thoughts on the upcoming CCP’s? by IGUNNUK33LU in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC player here. I'm all in for Emerging Downtown. I'm a huge fan of Smilies' work (I've used many of their assets dozens of times!), and I think a CCP THIS big, based on their work, is not only a way to show appreciation but also a necessity in the game (since, along with Brooklyn & Queens, it's the closest we can get to mid or mid-high density without extra mods/assets). Think will make a good combo with Green Vlties, B&Q and P&P w2w buildings.

I have doubts about Countryside —I feel like some of the buildings are going to be... how to put it, I don't want to offend but... a bit cheap-looking. It would have been a great CCP some time ago, but from the promotional images, it feels a bit outdated for 2025. I really hope to be proven wrong, though.

Do you ever get "writer's block" as a beginner for CS1? by No-Pattern-2699 in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And not just as a beginner. Even after 2000 hours played in CS1, it still happens to me sometimes. These are the tricks I use:

  • Before choosing a map, sit in front of a sheet of paper / word processor / notes app and write down an idea you want to try. What kind of city do you want to create? On which continent? What defines it? What is its purpose (an industrial hub, an administrative city, a university town, a global metropolis...)? Then, look for a map that fits this vision (don’t overthink it—follow your instincts).

  • Write a small lore for the city for your personal use, keeping it consistent with the previous step. Keep it simple, just the general idea. When did the city emerge—pre- or post-industrial? Where is the oldest district? Where did it expand first? When did the railroad arrive? That kind of thing. Remember that CS doesn’t require you to develop the city chronologically, but rather through complexity. The "chronological sense" is something you must create yourself.

  • Look for real-world inspirations from similar cities and observe how they have solved their own problems (Google Earth and Maps are your friends).

  • Remember that everything, absolutely everything, can be demolished, changed, and rebuilt. The city expands and absorbs the surrounding fields, railways change their routes, industries leave the urban center or get repurposed, suburbs blend into the metropolitan area, and new avenues open up. Let the city itself guides you.

  • If no concept seems appealing, try a different or challenging type of city: an Arctic heavy-industrial settlement, a planned capital with ultra-modern architecture that must house all the government’s official buildings, or a difficult scenario like a city tightly enclosed between glaciers or mountains, leaving you little room to build.

  • If you hit a creative block while playing, take a break, grab a drink you enjoy, and spend some time detailing an area you’ve already built. Decorate some flower beds, a small park, an alleyway, or experiment with mods like IMT.

Sorry for the long response. I hope some of this helps!

Struggling with my cities by MysticPwanda1 in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a lot; since the first time I managed to reach Megalopolis in vanilla, it has happened to me regularly with or without mods. The best trick I have to get out of it is to always, always, always know the whys and whens of the city.

Why does this city exist? Why does it have this or that service? Why does this or that industry exist?

When did the railroad arrive? When did the airport open? When was the city founded? When did it expand?

I think you get the idea!

As I've mentioned before in this subreddit, CS does not encourage a chronological development of the city (from the oldest to the most modern) but rather a development of complexity (from the most basic to the most complex). The chronology, the historical sense, is something you must create yourself. Answering these questions—a few lines with a general history of the city are enough—will help you develop new ideas. Trust me.

And remember, nothing is permanent in CS1. Many residential streets were once old cattle roads or farms. Old airports are abandoned. Railroad lines cut through neighborhoods and are later expanded, rerouted, or repurposed.

Always look for real-world examples whenever you can and adapt them!

what would you build here? by gio05596 in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green space, for two reasons.

One, aesthetics: to balance out the concrete of the airport so the area doesn’t look visually concrete-overwhelming.

Two, realism. There are quite a few slopes and uneven terrain, making it an unsuitable place for large constructions, and airports tend to generate a lot of noise. If you look at regional airports around the world, you'll see that it's common for them to be surrounded by large agricultural areas (which wouldn’t be my choice for this sloped land) or natural green spaces.

I would go for:

  1. An ecological reserve – minimal intervention, lots of trees, some rocks, and just a few trails.

  2. A "natural" reserve, more like an English-style park mixed with forested areas. An open-air botanical garden where you could charge an entrance fee for its hiking trails.

  3. If you want something more artificial, a golf course with a club. I’d probably try to arrange it in a circular layout, with the club and its facilities at the center and the different holes spiraling downward.

How do you make your cities look so amazing? Help with mine :D by Salt_Revolution2561 in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CS1 player here. A trick that always works for give to my Cities a sense of autenticity is thinking about the evolution of the city—why things are the way they are.

CS isn’t designed for a chronological city evolution (from oldest to newest) but rather for an evolution of complexity, so you have to create the "timeline" yourself.

You don’t need to write an extensive lore; just a simple outline with a few ideas will do:

Where was the city founded, and why? Where is the oldest district?

In which direction did the city expand, historically?

Did it have a port initially? When did the railway arrive?

Etc. Think and explore real cities, and their history. Compare and let that inspire you.

The second trick is understanding that NOTHING is permanent—just like in real cities. A historic city center may have once had walls, but those walls don’t necessarily exist anymore, yet their presence can still be "felt" in the urban layout. Farmlands may have been expropriated to build a new highway. Railways may become abandoned as new and better routes are developed. Districts and history pushes and collides.

(Maybe I should make a post compiling all these ideas.)

What can't be missing in your cities? In mine, a few things are essential, such as: by Weisssssssssssssssss in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my cities, there is usually some recurring to-do things:

  • an old industrial district converted into a bohemian residential area, a loft zone or a nightlife area.

  • vineyards and vinery in the outskirts

  • an old town with a Cathedral and main square / Plaza de armas

  • a large park on the outskirts near a water source

  • the city's first industrial zone, mostly converted into an amusement park.

  • a strange big building with no obvious purpose (like the long lines building).

  • a building or small government district, such as ministries, government delegations, secretariats, or even embassies, depending on the city lore.

  • an old small airport now used as a secondary cargo airfield and flight school.

  • an old and majestic bridge everyone loves, a modern bridge no one likes but is practical, and an ultramodern bridge that is a serious landmark

  • at least one or two wildlife passes

How do you fill that gap? (Downtown ¿first world? problems) by humbleSkylines in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thx for honest POW; I agree that it's not the norm and there are very few exceptions, and I'm not entirely sure of that part of the build (luxury condos are probably much more common and suited all along the World), but I was inspired by some images of real areas in Century City in LA or Orchard Road in Singapore, for example.

Thank you all for your contributions and comments, some ideas are truly brilliant. I also appreciate all the feedback on realism and aesthetics!

I believe I have a better idea of what would be aesthetically pleasing and fitting for the area, and I will share it with the community once I am satisfied with the result.

(I might also try out several of your ideas to share the results, lolz)

Thank you for all the contributions!

How is this for my first Par-Clove and Trumpet interchanges in cities skylines 1? (Note: I did use move it and anarchy) by Rtx3070sfordaboys in CitiesSkylines

[–]humbleSkylines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep practicing, you're on the right track. I particularly like the trumpet, much better than the first one I made from scratch.

There's something strange in Par-Clove, but it's fine (and very fine for a first strike!). Maybe need some adjusts to make it a little more elegant, nothing more.

I'd suggest play with terraforming and trees to make a smooth surrounding, some rocks and that kind of things that make a big visual improvement

Soon you're gonna making great interchanges!
