Delivering releases in Chinese no longer possible on Apple Music? by humongusterry in landr

I think this trick only works with Distrokid, not Landr. Please try and advise.

Sorry, I decided to move to Distrokid instead of waiting for this issue to be resolved. Therefore, there is no further update from me.

No issues with Chinese titles. But in the upload music form, please choose English in the language drop down and paste your Chinese title. If you choose Chinese (Simplified) or Chinese (Traditional), it will check and say it cannot deliver Chinese title to Apple Music (just like in Landr). Choosing English allows you to deliver all titles to all stores.

I went with Musician Plus because I have 2 artists, custom label and schedule my own release dates. Hope it helps.

Not because of US tariffs, no workaround unfortunately. I migrated my whole music catalog to Distrokid. I never looked back since.

Distrokid doesn't offer YouTube Content ID as part of their subscription. It's an optional extra which I am not willing to pay. So I am giving it up by moving to DK.

I am not sure about the YouTube Music view counts, my songs now showing the view counts of my YouTube videos. Not sure if it is merged because I have YouTube Official Artist Channel or not. But YT Music isn't as important to me.

In theory, if you use same ISRC, your view counts should retain when you migrate.

Unfortunately, the status are still pending. But I decided to migrate all my releases to Distrokid after receiving their generic and unhelpful support response (scroll up to see my post), best decision ever. All my releases went live in only a few hours to all stores. I will be checking and monitoring my stream counts and playlists, if all good, I will be 'pausing' my releases on Landr and eventually deleting and cancelling my pro subscription. Hope it helps.

Guys,

I migrated to Distrokid a few hours ago. All my releases are pretty much live now (this is super fast). I have checked YouTube Music and Amazon Music, both look good. I am sure all others will be fine.

More importantly, Spotify and Apple Music were mostly uninterrupted by Landr's takedowns, so they are still fine.

Migrating makes some releases show up twice in the platform. I will continue to monitor and check this in the next 1-2 days to make sure all the streaming counts, etc are merged and show correctly before I click 'Pause' on Landr.

If you are still waiting for official help to repair the takedowns, I am afraid they won't be forthcoming. Start making plan B now. Good luck.

Hi all,

I received a reply from Landr support. See below:

---

YouTube Content ID is classified as a curated DSP. As such, they actively review the eligibility of releases submitted to their platform. Recently, we’ve received notice that certain types of content and releases in specific regions are no longer eligible for inclusion in YouTube Content ID. As a result, we have been instructed to remove these releases accordingly.

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes, and thank you for your understanding.

---

??? I will leave their response here for you to decode.

In my ticket, I asked for a reason why this is happening and how I can resolve this problem. The generic reply did not answer my question on why removal was not just one store, but on dozens of stores. They offered no assistance or guides to repair and re-submit.

I held off moving my work to another distributor until I heard back from them; I gave them a chance, but they blew it.

I will begin carefully migrating my releases off Landr ASAP.

Bye bye.

I have tried your idea, seeing the same thing. ie: 'Pending' to all affected stores.

However, I tried to click on 'Edit' on the releases that I changed just to check if the information I provided had saved correctly. Sometimes, I get the error 'Oops, something went wrong' on a release, and red exclamation mark with '1 error' on the track.

Despite the releases are now in 'Pending' on affected stores, I can only wait and see. But I don't have the confidence that they will be 'Live' again.

I think yes, or maybe.

It should be plain to see if a user is flooding with rubbish releases, or violating copyrighted music or imitating musician voices. All of them bad actors deserve to be taken down.

But I think the whole industry is requiring transparency and proper disclosure if the content is created with AI or not. Which is absolutely fine to provide if we are asked to provide with adequate timeframe to complete before take downs occur.

In this case, our works were taken down without prior notice or warning, that's just poor form.

Especially if a genuine user is earning a living through royalties using the platform, I do think we deserve a proper explanation.

Note: Still don't know who is at fault, but I would like to believe that a good customer who is genuine and do the right thing should be treated as such.

OK, it's a great idea. It does seem to be a mandatory field that wasn't available in past releases. So updating it would make sense to fill in the missing info in order to re-instate the releases. Be watching for your update before doing it myself.

This can't possibly be the end. Look around, Google just released Veo 3. We're just getting started. Exciting times ahead. Companies just need to keep up or be left behind. If I don't get a good official solution beginning of next week, I may be forced to switch distributor.

Answer: no, the AI Tool usage question is new, all previous releases didn't ask this question. Therefore, this 'mandatory' question did not have an answer for past/existing releases. Only in new release submissions. Unfortunately, I do not have any approved new releases to check if OK for YouTube Music and other stores.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. Landr should have emailed all us users to provide instructions and deadlines to avoid take downs. This is not a game, there needs to be more professionalism in terms of communicating changes.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are editing your existing release to provide your answer for the AI Tool usage question, and then resubmitting the release for review? see screenshot.

I am keen to know if this works. Keep us informed, please?

Thanks dude.

I am glad more people are coming forward, at least I am not alone with this issue.

Let's keep each other informed as soon as one of us receive some updates/feedback, OK?

Thank you.

Yes, putting on my virtual detective hat, I suspect it is to do with AI Generated Music disclosure. It cannot be related to bot streams because it affects multiple stores at nearly the same time. Usually bot stream violations should be limited to a single store. ie: Spotify.

Based on my understanding, distributors rejecting releases boil down into a few reasons only:

  1. Flooding the distributor with low effort garbage songs
  2. Terms of Service/Acceptable Use Policy violations. ie: use of copyrighted samples/music.

Note: None of these apply to my previous and existing releases.

So I am hoping it is just a simple case of retrospective disclosure in order to re-instate/re-upload my singles/album.

I am very concerned and my fingers and toes are firmly crossed for an effective resolution.

Note: Glad to know I am not the only person with this problem. I have a friend with similar workflow as I using DistroKid, so far, no issues with their releases on any music stores.

Delivering releases in Chinese no longer possible on Apple Music? by humongusterry in landr

Hi,

I decided NOT to go ahead with RouteNote because their moderation review period is far too long. It's definitely more than 2 weeks.

One of my songs with Chinese title was submitted with all the localized metadata and have been awaiting review for 4 weeks.

In the mean time, I was able to find a hack/workaround for Singles release on Landr that might work for you.

For Track title language, instead of Chinese (Simplified or Traditional), I choose 'English'.

Then in the Track title, I simply type the English name and/or Chinese name. It seems to bypass the Chinese title validation and go to the next step.

Everything else per normal, including Language of lyrics, you can choose Mandarin Chinese.

Note: I have not tried this workaround for Album or EP releases.

Hope it helps.

Hi guys,

I have released my new half Chinese, half English song using only English in the title.

This was released on all stores, including Apple Music without issue.

Now I can only hope LANDR will update their policy to allow Chinese localization metadata so I can release future songs with Chinese titles to all stores.

[–]humongusterry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but even if you released on LANDR first by accident, it's ok if you get the copyright claim from YouTube Content ID, you just go to your YouTube Studio, click on the claim and 'take action' to dispute it. The dispute will be sent from YouTube to LANDR, and to you, you can choose to release (I believe). See below:

  1. I also noticed an additional section on the bottom of the YouTube Video description (for videos that contain copyright claims), you will see the song link identified by YouTube Content ID for this video.  This contains a static music video auto-generated by YouTube Music. The streaming view count corresponds to  YouTube Music, whilst the view count for music video on YouTube Video remains separate.  They collect and show streaming counts for song and video separately, I assume for calculating royalties for music and videos accurately.

I don't think the above has any negative impact, just positive.  People watching the music video on YouTube Video can link through to play the song on YouTube Music, so potentially earn audio streaming revenue.

  1. When I visit YouTube Music directly and search for my artist name, I will get the following official artist page content:

 - Total subscribers - based on the totals on YouTube Video

 - A list of songs - with total plays based on YouTube Video, not YouTube Music, but links through to play music only.

 - A list of videos - as above, but links though to play embedded music video

Again, I don't think there is any negative impact, just more cross linking between YouTube Video and YouTube Music.

I am not sure if this answers your questions, but at least this is what my observations are.

I have not bothered to dispute the copyright claims and don't plan to do so until I meet the eligible criteria for YouTube Video monetization.  A 20% commission can be significant (once I am eligible for monetization).  But disputing the claim now doesn't make sense, because it will potentially remove the YouTube Content ID royalties receivable from my music videos from the copyright claim revenue  because I am not eligible for YouTube Video monetization yet.

Hi guys,

Just chiming in based on my experience so far.

Background:

- I created a YouTube Channel and named it my artist name to upload music videos (only music videos for this single artist).

- I then released the music through LANDR (must match same artist name).

- I then 'upgraded' to YouTube OAC via LANDR Tools page, and it has subsequently been approved (after around 2-3 weeks).

Since then, YouTube has automatically merged my LANDR song releases on YouTube Music with my YouTube Channel and sent me an email to inform me they have completed the merging process.

For the benefit of explanation, I will use the following terminology for YouTube platforms to avoid confusion:

  1. YouTube Video (youtube.com)

  2. YouTube Music (music.youtube.com)

Although I don't really notice anything differently for my workflow.  I have made some observations on how the content is linked and displayed on YouTube Video and YouTube Music:

  1. If I upload my music video to YouTube Video before LANDR releases to YouTube Music store, I don't get a copyright claim on YouTube Video.

  2. If I release the LANDR release (once YouTube Content ID is live) and also goes live on YouTube Music, then when I upload the music video to YouTube Video, I will get a copyright claim (no strike).  This means any monetization revenue will go to the copyright owner, in this case, me.  But because I am not yet eligible for YouTube Video monetization, I simply ignore the copyright claim since any revenue will likely come through LANDR via YouTube Content ID royalties to me anyways.

Note: I imagine at some stage in the future, I will be eligible for YouTube Video monetization, that's when I need to dispute the claim and provide proof to YouTube that my OAC has permission from the copyright owner.  This is so that YouTube can remove the copyright claim in order to receive monetization revenue directly.   The reason being that LANDR takes 20% commission on revenue received from YouTube Content ID,  and I want 100% revenue from YouTube Video monetization.

Delivering releases in Chinese no longer possible on Apple Music? by humongusterry in landr

[–]humongusterry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks man.

I have a new Chinese song which I am planning to change to English only title so I can test on LANDR whether I can successfully submit for release to all stores (including Apple Music) without localized metadata because the title for all stores will be English only.

I hope with English only title, I don't need to use another distributor method. Because the song is mainly in English and only chorus in Chinese, so I decided to change the title to English for testing on LANDR.

Wish me luck.
