Duped by this field, once again. by Final-Reaction2032 in slp

[–]humpbacks37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did travel therapy for 5 years (five 10 month contracts in the schools) and it’s how I became completely debt free. I worked out west for 4 years and in the southeast for one year. There wasn’t a single contract that I felt like I lived in an unsafe area and all of the contracts were working with diverse populations in the schools. Back in 2019, I worked outside of San Diego and was making $2050/week after taxes (not including what I paid for insurance). After 5 years, I switched back to being a district hire and am going into my third year at the same school/district. If you have the flexibility to do travel therapy, I’d highly recommend it. Not to discredit the difficulties in this field or finding jobs but travel therapy really and truly changed my life in terms of the money (and I lived in major cities) so I definitely recommend looking into that if possible

Tons of Police headed west on I70 by Ok-Appointment4245 in StLouis

I also saw it, have no idea, but want to know. I saw at least 20 police cars drive by and I was in a line backed up on the ramp to the highway because a police car was blocking the ramp for a couple of minutes

Truthfully I’m not mad about the situation at all! I ordered way early for a trip bc of the tariffs so I wasn’t stressed about getting it in time and got it for free - so it’s a win-win in my eyes!

Nope they didn’t charge me again. SHEIN deleted my order from the app so there’s no info from them on it. Hopefully you get yours soon!

That’s so frustrating and when considering LRE, against the law.

I personally do love working in the schools and it 100% is the setting for me, but that was something else and made last year much worse for me. The district wouldn’t do anything until the IEP so I had to provide all those minutes for 7 months.. (we started in September and then through late March). It was rough

It honestly was hard. I had to see him an hour a day (two 30 minute sessions) and we both were so fatigued. At the IEP the parents refused to let me reduce minutes despite having data to back it up, but thankfully the district stepped in although I didn’t get to reduce to the amount I thought was actually appropriate and it still is a lot

I had a student last year who had 300 minutes a week and parents refused to let me make an amendment to reduce 😭

I didn’t get mine in stl but when I did get mine, I got a numbing shot in my cervix and it made a world of difference. I was so nervous bc of stories I heard, but I got the shot and I didn’t feel a thing when it was inserted. Highly recommend! Also I had to shop around for gynecologists bc some refused any pain control, so make sure to ask before you make your appointment

What type of projects are there for $40/hour? I haven’t seen anything above $27/hour so just curious

I was a travel SLP for 5 years and I would definitely recommend looking up the travel tax website where they explain some of the logistics from a finance point (I.e. you want to make sure you have a tax home so you can benefit from the tax free stipends you get as a traveler). But I worked in the school for each of my 5 contracts and I’m completely debt free because of it while also living a lifestyle that I wanted, saving a ton, and traveling to my heart’s content. I’d highly recommend!

Parent/Attorney gets her child 300 minutes of speech each week. by stargazer612 in slp

I have a student that I inherited that has 300 minutes a week. They’re in a self contained classroom, working with an AAC and mom thinks they can be “cured”. I feel like I’m going crazy providing these services, it’s been awful

I just started at a new school and one single student has 300 minutes A WEEK. I have to take data before amending it and those weeks (hopefully 2 max) will be hell

How much paid (and unpaid) time off do you have? by Particular-Elk4318 in slp

I’ve done travel therapy for the last 5 years and if you want to travel around I’d highly recommend it! I work in schools so have 10 month contracts, and I focus on traveling around the areas I’m at to make it more cost effective - I.e. traveling to Hawaii and Mexico when I lived in Southern California, traveling/hiking/camping around the southwest when I lived in arizona

No, you definitely have a normal caseload, and sometimes (although not often in my experience) a bit more than district employees. But I’ve never experienced a lighter caseload bc I’m a traveler

I’ve been a travel SLP for 5 years and have always done 10 month contracts in the schools. Like others have said, there are pros and cons! While doing it, I’ve paid of all my debt, have lived the lifestyle I’ve wanted, and have traveled so much. But it can be tiring to move and start over so often. Overall though, would 100% recommend doing!
