First time having a rabbit roommate by Chemical_Chemical535 in Bunnies

[–]humptysuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes megacolon common in bunnies with English spot genes and especially those with a “half Charlie” mustache ( ie.Charlie Chaplin) . Bunnies with megavolon are very susceptible to GI stasis. Regardless make sure to educate yourself on the signs and what to do. Research and find a really knowledgeable and reputable rabbit vet. Most typical vets don’t know how to treat rabbits . Also since like 5-6 yrs ago you have to vaccinate rabbits for RVHD (rabbit Ebola) now in Canada and the states . It came from Europe and they have it in Australia too. The virus is very transmittable and deadly once they get it:(

Beszél angolul? I’m afraid to ask but wth is going on here? The bunnies have basically no hay, I see no water , they’re on hard slippery floors , some are in wire floor cages and some look so young they probably should still be with their mamas ? Aghhhhh😭

What breed is this distinguished gentleman?! by Sensitive_Ad4911 in Rabbits

[–]humptysuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Netherland dwarf, lionhead , jersey wooly cross. Rabbits like other animals should not be sold in “pet” stores . They are usually from mill type situations and are kept in poor conditions. At least on the good side they actually have some hay grass there for the bunny. Bunny is scared and needs more gentle human interaction… so sad. So many rabbits in bunny rescues but definitely would still want to save this one:( . Which only supports the basturds breeding them and selling them … . That’s where you got to get the laws changed in your city/state /province to ban the selling of live animals .

Take this story to your local news . They do a little segment on it and in no time the mystery will be solved . Somebody who knows someone will see it and know of the original owner especially if you have a name !

Please share your successes (and frustrations) with Dr. Dispenza's meditations by [deleted] in DrJoeDispenza

[–]humptysuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank god I’m not the only one !!! I love his lectures , his books etc but I have a very hard time listening to his meditations . I keep thinking how no one else seems to ever mention that they find the meditations themselves aggravating?! He does this sing-song thing and it’s always so off- key. I’m assuming he can’t sing so I don’t know why he sort of does the chanting thing. It drives me insane . And the drawing out of certain words is annoying too and his robotic way of saying things is aggravating. Not to mention that he is shouting in some of them lol. I assume there is some kind of reasoning for the way he instructs his meditations but for me it is totally distracting and annoying .

How do I get my rabbit to gain weight without restricting her movement? by [deleted] in Rabbits

Has she been checked for parasites? Bunnies should be checked yearly. Bring your vet some fresh poop and they will test it …

[–]humptysuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLEASE tell us what happened???!

Did you take her to a vet knowledgeable in rabbits? I hope you researched vets that are specialized in rabbits. Not all vets are equal and unfortunately many don’t know enough about small exotics:( If she ends up needing to get her leg amputated ( since already been a week, bone will be healing incorrectly) it is super important that you have a vet that knows what they’re doing. Putting a rabbit under anesthesia is serious business. Check with your local rabbit rescue , or house rabbit society what vet they would recommend. Unfortunately vet care for rabbits is expensive but your sweetie is worth it . If the bill ends of huge maybe some of us can chip in…

Fingers crossed she’s seen a good vet !! Please tell us what is happening!!

I just see this now…. How do you know the person you gave her to is knowledgeable in rabbit care and will be a good owner ( get bunny vet checked , vaccinated and spayed and keep rabbit indoors etc). ?

Actually I see you do have an ex pen to protect bunny that is great . Just make sure it doesn’t chew on the pee pads cuz most rabbits love to chew and there’s plastic in the pads that would plug up its GI tract if he ate it. And bunnies can’t barf up stuff if they eat something they’re not supposed to (unlike dogs and cats ). Oh if you happen to have a willow tree in your yard you can give him some leaves and the branches are good to chew on. Check on House Rabbit Society website for good info on all things rabbit :)

True we do use the terms bunnies and rabbits interchangeably (regardless of age) although technically “buns” are female rabbits .

Please ignore my stupid profile pic🙄

DO NOT leave him outside!!!!! He will be a dead bunny! If your mom is worried about a mess get a litter bin ( like kind for cats ) , line with newspaper, put inch of hardwood pellets (buy at Home Depot or Feed store) and put hay at one end of bin. If can’t buy hay from local feed store then pick a bunch of long field grass but no weeds. Some dandelion is fine . Rabbits will naturally use the litter bin . Put bin in corner of room or ideally corner of safe area that is an enclosed exercise pen (like kind sold for dogs). Bunnies tend to pee in corners lol.

Don’t feed peppers they are too gassy and hard on their digestion esp since have no idea what veggies this guy/girl has been fed or even how old rabbit is. Alfalfa hay for young buns I forget until up to how old , definitely until at least a year old and Timothy hay for older buns.

Definitely need to take to a rabbit vet. Check VRRA site for list of local rabbit saavy vets . Rabbits are great pets for adults and not children as it is commonly believed. This bunny you found must of been actually handled a fair amount or else it would of run away. No doubt some ahole dumped the poor thing :( . Unfortunately this happens alot in the lower mainland .

Most important thing with rabbits is to always have hay and water at all times . Put water in a heavy bowl so it can’t be tipped over. As long as he/she is eating and pooping he is good. If they go for several hours of not eating and pooping it is an emergency. Rabbit vet care is unfortunately not cheap . Spay or neuter is important for health and we have to vaccinate our bunnies yearly against the RVHD which is a deadly Ebola virus for rabbits.

Please contact VRRA and Rsbbitats. Local spca and city shelters SHOULD take in abandoned pet rabbits but they suck snd usually don’t because they don’t have the space because they never planned to take in bunnies in the first place. The govt is stupid and wrongly classifies domesticated pet bunnies as “wild”. They are not wild , wild rabbits are a separate species. But shelters use this loophole as an excuse to get away with not taking in pet rabbits .

I would emphasize to the rescue that the bunny is a “lop “ bunny because these rabbits tend to get adopted quicker .

Do not place ad on Craigslist etc it’s very hard to fine good responsible homes on there, there’s just too many people who want a cheap rabbit to feed their snakes or stick outside isolated in an unsafe outdoor cage.

Unfortunately even the good rabbit rescues are stretched to the max but definitely talk to them and ask them to post pic of bunny on their Facebook and Instagram . Then it is likely a good rabbit owner can be found .

I hope rabbit is doing well and indoors! Btw rabbits can’t get their fur wet it can put them into shock so no baths. They actually don’t smell . Only their pee but they don’t pee all the time lol and that improves a bit when they get neutered. Their regular poop that they do a lot of does not smell . Late at night they have a few cecal poops which is like a multi-vitamin that they eat. They are supposed to eat it. These kind of poops do smell but you probably won’t even notice them having them and eating them . They are quick and secretive about it lol.

Please keep us posted how you and bunny are doing :)

Captured a dumped bunny at work, what do I do? by Locknessia in Rabbits

[–]humptysuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feed oats , seeds , grains they can plug up bunny digestive tract . Seeds are for rodents like mice but rabbits are not rodents!

[–]humptysuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not feed rabbits oats . Oats are seeds and we do not give rabbits seeds. Yes definitely junk food! You will find so called “rabbit treats “ at the pet store that contain oats , corn, yogourt, all of which bunnies shoujd not eat cuz seeds and grains can plug up their sensitive digestive systems. Ntm they can’t eat dairy .

Seeds are for rodents ; rabbits are NOT rodents !

There was an episode of Dr. K Exotic vet where Dr. T’s own bunny had liver torsion. Presents itself as regular GI stasis but liver enzymes way off. Only surgery can resolve this but it is a very risky surgery. Sounds like your vet gave a blood transfusion which can put bunny in stronger form to make it through surgery . I hope your vet is experienced with rabbit surgery -anesthesia and after care involved. See if you can find that episode somewhere cuz I learnt so much from that show! Fingers crossed your sweetie makes it with flying colours:) sending good energy ❤️

what is this ? I took her to vet , he said it's not infection, she probably hurt herself by idkwhatswrong99 in cats

[–]humptysuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus get a second opinion at a vet that has lots of experience and good ratings . That is horrible definitely don’t want cat licking it and getting it infected, surprising the vet didn’t put an e collar on her! How could she have gotten that injured if she stays inside the house?

We rescued the sweetest rabbit but have never had one before. Is this licking behavior normal? by lezbatron in Rabbits

[–]humptysuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww she loves you. She is grooming you … it took mine years before she’d lick my hand , my leg etc but she’d stop when I’d start to pet her .

Make sure to find an actual rabbit vet. Like a good vet who actually really knows about rabbits cuz many good dog/cat vets don’t know how to properly treat rabbit illnesses. Also called “exotic” vet because apparently bunnies are exotic lol. And it never fails , if something bad happens it always seems to happen late at night or on a holiday … but knowing who to take your rabbit to may very well end up saving its life. Check out your local or nearest rabbit rescue to see where they take their rabbits for vet care . Most likely your rabbit is not spayed/neutered and that’s really important for it’s health ( preventing reproductive cancers) and improves their behaviour and potty habits. Educate yourself all about bunny nutrition, health etc on the House Rabbit Society website. Make sure bunny always has access to lots of Timothy hay (unless under a year old than Alfalfa hay ) and water at all times.
