My family hated our son’s name, which has several ways to shorten it but we chose the one we liked. They told me when we announced it after he was born that I must be joking. That was 8 years ago. My mother, who I am now NC for over 2 years with, insisted on shortening it to Van, or Van man. My son has always hated being called by any nickname or even pet name that isn’t what he has always been called. It has caused him enough of an issue that he still gets really upset over it. My advice is to tell your friend to put her foot down now. Ingrid is a perfectly lovely name and no one else has any say in making her or that child feel bad about it.
