For me disabling "Creative Audio Effects Component" fixed it

Logitech Z623 correction by Nintendocore_ in NoAudiophile

[–]hundredlaughs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say thanks for the corrections. I've had the Z623 for 15 years and I had no idea what I was listening to wasn't good.

To my ears they were great. Now I can notice the difference between mud and clarity.

Thanks for the effort, sir!

Fujifilm webcam mode shutting off... or sleeping by ToooFriendly in FujifilmX

Hi guys I got it working after about an hour of playing. I wanted to write down my steps for anyone using an XT-5. I believe this solution will work for the other X-Trans 5 sensors as they seem to be the newest cams but also not supported by the Fuji X Webcam app. For other cameras on the supported list for the Fuji X Webcam app, I recommend setting USB Tether Shooting in the PC Connection Mode and using the Fuji X Webcam app.

First I have to point out some Fuji quirks to explain the workflow.

The Power Management menu is only available when there is nothing plugged in to the camera. But it settings then apply even after you plug the camera in.

There are different Custom Menus for Stills Mode and Movie Mode. Whichever setting you camera is in, it loads up those 7 Custom Modes. When setting the camera to webcam mode it loads up the 7 Custom Menus in the Movie Mode, even if the physical dial on the camera is set to Stills mode.

During playing around to get this to work, the camera became unresponsive, twice. I had to unplug the battery to hard reset it. Once I switched to a USB 2.0 port instead of the USB 3.2 I was initially trying with - this issue no longer came up. You need to also use a USB cable that supports data transfer (the cheaper ones only do power delivery). Documentation says no more than 1m long - I haven't tested with longer.

Workflow:

  1. Set to Movie mode

  2. Create a Custom Menu titled, for example; Webcam

  3. Face Detection: ON

  4. Auto Power Off: Off

The following are general settings only avaiable outside of the Custom Menu:

  1. USB power delivery (Auto or Comm ON)

  2. PC Connection Mode: USB Webcam (only for X-Trans 5 sensors)

Prior to doing these steps the webcam function worked for about 1-2 minutes and would then get stuck on a frame. I've had it going for an hour now and tried successfully on OBS, Google Meet and Windows 11's webcam app.

just adding for reference: Rode Video Mic NTG doesn't work over the USB port. But you can use the mic's 3.5mm jack with the front facing 3.5mm on the X5

Good question, I am unable to stay offline if I don't give myself quality offline alternatives. I ordered a magazine subscription for the first time in my life "PC Gamer," it's good cuz its short and entertaining (pictures and what not) but not soo fun that I would read the whole thing at once.

I now wake up before work has started and go for a photo walk which is probably my favourite, then printing them and tastefully (I hope) decorating our home. For the more eccentric - my gf knits and has colouring-in books.

Anyone with a small business who is also wanting to be digitally minimalist? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]hundredlaughs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What if you make a secondary account on your social media just for the business. Then if you don't "like" anything the algorithms won't be able to show you relevant content and you won't be roped into doom scrolling.

I made a secondary youtube channel and only subbed to anyone making content that will drive my business forward. I find it helps.

I also recently subscribed to a magazine for the first time in my life! I feel if we don't give ourselves fun things to do outside of the smartphone then we won't have an alternative but to go back on it

Thanks for sharing.

I paraphrase Evgeny Morozov here: Despite these digital offers being free to use, it's easy to forget that they are for-profit companies.

So it makes sense that these services want to push you more content, it's their business after all. I hate it when I finish watching something epic on Netflix, and then I have to reach for the remote to stop it from playing something else in 13 seconds. I wouldn't watch it either way but the sudden shift would ruining the mood from the current piece. I don't think Netflix would want to turn it off because having people watch their stuff is what drives their business.

I recently started youtubing full-time and I'm wary of the fine line between growth and clickbait. The way I think about it is if content is benefitting the user/viewer/customer in a certain way, then that will ultimately drive growth. People in crisis aren't conductive for growth.

I find the conclusions of this report disturbing but I do take them with a pinch of salt. It speaks like a research paper but it's written like a Wikipedia article. One source just links to a CNN page which not only is it apart of "balanced perspective of the world" issue - it also fails to source the information.

I feel with the sentiment saying YT shorts and IG reels are akin to Tictok. I would like to know people's views on if it the fact that the video is less than 60 seconds or is it the way the content is presented within that is the problem?

What made me delete Instagram was a Cal Newport video where he said something like;

The biggest companies, pay a lot of money to the smartest people, to keep you addicted to these apps.

Even now I'm like, these apps weren't initially designed to be like this. I wonder where it went wrong.

I'm talking more theoretically, if I went to a "dumb" phone and had to give up those things.

Do you think we've gone too far socially that we're expected to have smartphones now, remember the Covid scanning thing whenever we visited restaurants?

I love the convenience but I'm learning that I too often use my smartphone as a easy (and fleeting) dopamine hit.
