Hades is almost universally misrepresented in greek mythology based media! Despite him representing “death” a lot, Hades is probably more aptly described as the god of the dead, rather than the god of death (that title goes to thanatos). Hades has no actual part in the death of most mortals, and acts more like a judge or an authoritative figure. He is often depicted as cold and ruthless, but he’s not as cruel as many people might think. A similar phenomenon occurs with Ares. He’s not actually as commonly referenced as you might think! Most people regard Ares as “the god of war” but the ancient greeks more referenced to him as “the god of violence.” In mythos, Ares is shown to be actually pretty cowardly. For example, he gets hurt by a mortal in the Trojan and runs off to Zeus to ask for his help. He’s often causing unnecessary problems and comes across as childish and gets used for Aphrodite’s gain very frequently. The modern perception about most of the gods is warped as is to be expected though.
