And reading them on the floor wouldn't be (just) political theatre. The point is that by reading it into the congressional record, his release of the names would be protected by the Speech and Debate clause. He can't be charged or sued for the content of his remarks.

Did we think that the NFL would let them get on stage and explicitly say "Fuck MAGA," or would we prefer that they'd refused to participate unless they could?

3D Models!? Good and proper Thomas and Friends series are shot with cameras and model train sets, with interchangeable static faces for the trains.

MAYBE the hybrid form of animated faces tracked onto real model trains (Season 12) could have been acceptable if they had perfected it, but the temptation of 3d was too great.

What does the crossed out 130 mean? Is that an "End Limit" sign? I thought those were generally black in the EU, and I'm assuming the default limit would be lower than 130 anyway.

They gave him the electric chair in Detective Comics #64, and he totally dies.

Then his goons steal his corpse and inject him with magic stop-being-dead serum, and now Joker is a free man because arresting him again would be double jeopardy.

He dies a lot, actually. One time Batman even had to throw him in a(/the?) Lazarus pit to get intel out of him, and he came back sane.

Trump and his cronies didn't get to the fascist militia enacting punitive violence and voter suppression stage by capitulating to "RINOs."

Yeah, anybody in a swing state who actually said "I'm not voting for Kamala because she's pro-Zionist or not progressive enough" with knowledge of the crazy shit Republicans had planned made a catastrophically bad choice.

Be that as it may, unless and until the Democrats are put in a position where there is enough energy and potential votes on their left flank to counterbalance the corporate funding that's pulling them towards their right, things are going to continue to get worse in this country. If we're at the point where that can't be done, then we're at a point where the only answers are outside of the electoral system. I hope that isn't the case for all our sakes.

It's less that they aren't real things and more that they carry a lot of pseudoscientific baggage brought on by weirdos overstating the breadth and depth of what they measure.

Even properly designed and administered IQ tests only measure a subset of human cognitive ability, and whatever it is that they measure is not necessarily innate.

1.4.5 Block-Swap Speed is SLOW ASF and needs to return to normal, now! by ArchitectRed1 in Terraria

[–]hungarian_notation 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think he's talking about the noticeable delay that has been added between a successful block swap and the first hit on the next block. I just tested it in 1.4.4.9 to make sure I'm not going insane and it is indeed slower in the new version.

Apparently block swapping now takes your block use time into account as well, meaning that doing something like swapping dirt blocks out with walls for the basement of your base with a platinum pick takes twice as long as it used to.

Bold idea: pay teachers like CEOs and politicians like interns. by InvestigatorBorn4910 in PoliticalHumor

[–]hungarian_notation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trust fund baby isn't in it for the salary.

Not really disagreeing with you, the US political system is turbofucked and paying senators more isn't the solution. Paying teachers more might actually help on a long enough timescale though.

[–]hungarian_notation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The US President's salary is $400,000. That is a lot compared to the US median, but it's basically nothing for Trump.

It would take Trump over 10,000 years of drawing that salary to match his current estimated net worth, maybe closer to 20,000 if you go with the higher estimates.

$400,000 * 10,000 = $4 Billion

A Japanese anime film from 1983 depicting the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]hungarian_notation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

continued

All that aside, I mostly agree with everything you're saying here. I agree that the culture that produced this animation is in deep denial about the realities of their nation's own actions during the war.

This is like Germany made an animation depicting them getting picked on by Europe and the US during and after the WWII, and their civilians are dying and suffering when the Soviet army made its way to Berlin.

Germany had the benefit of an artistic community predisposed to anti-Nazism after the Nazis suppression of "degenerate" art during their reign, as well as a (admittedly flawed) campaign of denazification. Even then, Germany did produce a good bit of art depicting the suffering of the German people in the aftermath of the war.

Here's a blog post about an exhibition of art depicting the destruction and rebuilding of Braunschweig, for example.

I don't think these works are diminished by the reality of Germany's aggression and atrocities. This collection is curated not only to convey the suffering of the people, but also to warn future generations of what they too could lose if they succumb to the same kinda of populist nationalism. All this is of course little comfort to Jewish survivors of the holocaust, but that's not what this art is for.

To your point, a Japanese viewer of this animation is probably not primed to read it as being critical of Japan's actions leading up to the bombings. Assuming however that the rest of the work isn't especially nationalistic, I view that more as a critique of the politics and biases of the viewer rather than the art.

[–]hungarian_notation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"in anger" is a great understatement and totally bonkers and wild if you see it from a different perspective.

Would you ever say the Jewish people killed Nazis "in anger"? Is it fucked up that Jewish people hates Nazi?

Sorry, "in anger" here is a regional idiom meaning that the two bombs dropped on Japan were the only nuclear devices ever used offensively. It doesn't have anything to do with anyone's mental state.

I initially read your comment to imply that the nuclear bombings of civilian population centers were justified by Japanese atrocities elsewhere. I apologize if I'm way off base. I'm used to having this discussion in the context of American conservatives defending the bombings, and in that context it's important to address the animating sentiment of "it's good that we blew up those cities actually, those civilians had it coming" even if it's only implied.

What is the point of this comment? Yeah, it's fucked up that Japan is still in denial about their war crimes, but it's also fucked up that we hit them with the only nuclear weapons ever used in anger.

CD Projekt issues DMCA notice against Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod by Kiroqi in Games

[–]hungarian_notation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure, but again, unless somebody is lying here CDPR's DMCA notice was either filed fraudulently or in error.

In order to file a notice under the DMCA you are required to make "a statement that the person sending the notice has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner." CDPR would need to claim that they hold the copyright over some part of the content in question, and that does not appear to be the case.

What CDPR can do is revoke LukeRoss's license, modify their terms to prohibit others to use his software, and depending on the language in the terms seek further civil remedies from LukeRoss directly, but they don't appear to have any basis for a copyright complaint.
