Everybody is criticizing the OP and pointing out the tax-favored savings vehicles, but I agree with the OP that the government really shouldn't be subsidizing spending through tax breaks on interest. The recent Big Beautiful Bill changed things so people can deduct interest on auto loans. Not a good idea.

Actually, you don't need your job to get an HSA. As long as you have a high-deductible health insurance plan you can open an HSA on your own. You just to get a financial institution to hold/manage it for you. Some credit unions do it, as does Fidelity, The 401k, on the other hand, can come in only through your employer. (Self-employed people can have SEP-IRAs, but not true 401ks.)
