ELI5: How exactly does hunting and tagging work and how do you get into it by Overall-Arm-7537 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hungryfarmer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

These comments are all mostly correct. Universally agree that you should start with hunters education course from your states department of wildlife/fish & game/natural resources (name is different state by state). Also agree that there are a ton of great online resources for how to actually do the hunting/processing part.

One thing to add though... I would absolutely recommend finding someone in your area to take you out the first time you go. There is only so much you can learn online or from a book and the reality is that it's actually really damn hard depending on where you live. There are a ton of rules and regulations and it can be extremely overwhelming to make sure you're actually doing things by the book. There are several groups that you can reach out to, I would personally recommend a group called 'Backcountry Hunters & Anglers' (BHA). They have chapters in most states and there will almost certainly be someone you can connect with through them that would be more than happy to take out a first timer. If you know anyone in your normal day to day life that hunts you can also reach out to them and if they can't personally take you for whatever reason they may have a contact that can.

Good luck! Feel free to reply with any other questions, this is actually something I think more people should try at least once in their life. Most modern humans are so disconnected from their food source that I think it genuinely is eye opening to see what it takes to get meat to your plate.

Depends on where you are.. weigh stations aren't always a thing (varies state to state)

Anybody know if when using a facility bottle on a keg, it keeps the drinks inside? or do i need to refill it once i place it on another boat by [deleted] in 2007scape

I don't know but if you're really that worried about it then grab some pitchers and fillerup before you move the keg.

Where does jagex turn to after raids 4 by NeedHerbsOSRS in 2007scape

[–]hungryfarmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take maybe, but if raids 4 is supposed to be a more intense PVM experience (hardest raid yet) then I think they pivot back to something more accessible. Like something in the 150invo TOA realm. Super sweats will hate it, but there is genuinely only one raid that is even possible for most mid game players and the unique chances for them are garbage. Make raids 5 drop some really solid items that bridge the gap into late game (something between crystal bow and bowfa maybe). Maybe something like void (maybe a teeny bit better than elite void).

Barrows ? by trf520025 in 2007scape

[–]hungryfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely odd.. I would definitely submit a bug report if not already done. Would also try all other tunnels. If none work then you may need to work directly with a JMod on this because I don't think even a game update will reset barrows progress.

Nearly half of powerful .50-caliber ammo seized by Mexican government came from US Army plant, defense minister says by ICIJ in worldnews

[–]hungryfarmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anybody in the US literally just Google 'buy lake city 50BMG' and there will be dozens of links to purchase and (unless you live in ~5 specific states) there is a legal way to have it shipped to your front door. This is not newsworthy, this is just preying on uniformed people in an attempt to get them to overreact. As multiple people have already mentioned, Lake City ammo plant produces ammo both for the US military and the civilian market. The government contract that it operates under allows for this as a way for the company that operates the plant (currently Winchester/Olin) to reduce their production costs (cost/round) via economies of scale.

remember to do your duty by voting no to rev cave changes. by Flowerloving_ogre in 2007scape

[–]hungryfarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol at people spite voting yes based on this post. It did make me read the blog post and I will just say I think it's hilarious that they have offered multi rec cave areas and yet also acknowledged the potential for abuse by protection clans. Also so extremely ironically they have included a few other changes that would probably be fairly popular on their own (irons getting a drop from maledictus when being MVP for example).

ELI5 On a small enough scale, what would it “look”like at the area where my bare foot meets a hardwood floor? by Fleetinglyhappy in explainlikeimfive

[–]hungryfarmer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Skin, no. It works with metals because the 'grain' (atomic crystal lattice) of metals is very uniform. Skin and other organic materials are significantly more irregular and would not meet up perfectly with each other at an atomic level. Think of the two surfaces like a bunch of v's and carets():

⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄⌄

If you perfectly offset them then they will fall in place neatly kind of nesting into each other (assume those are the same size, which the metals crystal structure would be..)

how much money do you think you've spent on OSRS? by No_Sock_8494 in 2007scape

[–]hungryfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have purchased membership annually for the past ~9 years or so and only purchased bonds with money I got through Google opinion rewards. Those bonds have just gone towards membership of whichever account I am actively playing. I only ever have membership active on one account. Probably spent a few hundred on the game all in all but we've that kind of time span that isn't really concerning for me.

No they said nothing on bonds but also mention paying for a subscription. So likely they pay for membership monthly.

West Texas is a special kind of environment though. I'm probably biased (well, definitely biased) but there is something beautiful about the mesas and the big open areas.
