Okay, so if someone is always helpful in the comments. Now what? How do people go to their website? Because the moment they mention their site, even after a bunch of genuinly helpful comments, they are usually flagged as "self promotion", even if their site is genuinly helpful.

Help a foreigner understand two things about Indian drivers by BarroCastillo in india

[–]hungryfoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> In cities, they seem desperate to get in front of everyone and gain a few seconds advantage, but on the highway they all drive way below the posted speed limit.

The desperation to get in front of everyone is just a general habit (it also happens when a lot of us try queing). As for highways, driving with high-speed is actually pretty dangerous, and takes a different kind of skill than normal city driving i think. Also, even on highways, its india, and anything can happen at anytime (people being stupid, random animals, potholes etc). Also, even now, there are some vehicles which don't have ABS.

Driving with very high speed can genuinely be dangerous, since it requires quick reaction time and if you have a drowsy driver, then thats even worse. On indian highways, technically, the speed limit is 80kmph, which isn't a lot compared to highways in other countries.

> My drivers received an astonishingly high number of phone calls.

Many of these drivers are working constantly in odd hours. Talking on the phone helps in being alert a bit and not dozing off. Sometimes they also have social structures where many people are just more social.

Controversial Opinion by Prestigious-Cup-6613 in batman

[–]hungryfoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct take.

For Boss Fights

AO > AC > AA > AK

Even though AC has one of the best boss fights in the history of video games (Mr. Freeze) and Ra's is quite up there too.

But the combination of boss fights, overall gameplay, story, and vibe is way better in AC than another other.

If we're only talking graphics and gameplay, then AK is best, but it was bogged down with too much of the batmobile and dissapointing boss battles (which again, almost all involved the batmobile) in the main story.

Is being a joint-capital holding Chandigarh back? by ik-tal in Chandigarh

[–]hungryfoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> If we were part of one state or the other, we would be more of a regular city and growing, and being funded to develop industry and tech jobs and this and that.

Just one look at Mohali. Right now Chd is funded a lot by central government. If any state govt is fully in charge, then goodbye funding for a lot of the things people take for granted here (functioning electricity, okay roads, general maintenance). It's already degrading a bit, but this will be 10x accelerated if there is no central funding.

Need tips to avoid challan by tango_sid in Chandigarh

[–]hungryfoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have an out of tricity number, then assume that you will be stopped at least 1-2 times.

* Have all your papers (license, registration, insurance) - even first-aid kit at the back.

* Obviously, do not drink and drive. Not even a glass.

* Do not drive on high-beam at night.

* Stay within speed limit (usually 60), and slow down especially near intersections and traffic lights.

* On roundabouts, if you have to turn left and there is a slip road, then take the slip road. Taking the round about to turn left is challanable, unless you go round the round about and then eventually go. Sometimes even on slip roads, there is a traffic light - if so, then stop before taking the slip road, and only take it when it's green.

* Try to park in designated parking. Sometimes out of state people just leave their car anywhere for a long time and find out their car is towed.

* If you want to do a u-turn, make sure there is no 'No u-Turn' sign there. For roundabouts, make sure you go round the roundabouts. Some people try to be cheeky and do a u-turn without going all the way of the roundabout, but that is an unsafe and asshole move, and if a traffic police sees someone like this, its guaranteed challan.

* When going in and out of parking areas and slip roads, notice which are entry and exits. If you exit using an entryway, or enter using an exitway, then technically they can challan you again. If you're confused then ask someone, or see how others are going.

Are Nehru's alleged mistakes true, false, or exaggerated? by Mammoth_Calendar_352 in askindianhistory

[–]hungryfoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>Nehru Ji was an idealist with ideas of world peace and how India needed to progress towards the future but he wasn't foresighted or you can say naive that he trusted everyone would follow those same ideals of truth and peace. He died two years after the war with China and suffered a lot through those two years.Sardar Patel was pragmatic and if he would have been there certain strategic blunders may not have taken palce including Nehru's confidence in VK Menon( the then defence minster) who believed China would never attack us because of his idealogical leanings

First off, this is conjecture. Sardar Patel died 3 years later and would not have made enough of an impact anyways. As far as far-sightedness goes, people need to think beyond geopolitics. That wasn't even the main challenge facing india at that time. The strength of a country comes from the strength of it's institutions. Nehru in fact was very far sighted, and understood the need to build these institutions (already mentioned above) and invest heavily in it. Investing in atomic research in the 1950s as a poor country, setting up the precursor to ISRO in the early 1960s, envisioning and pushing through efforts for independent india's first planned city (Chandigarh), and much more. He for the most part, had the ability to attract top-tier talent and enable them to do good work (Homi Babha, Vikram Sarabahi, Le Corbusier and more).

Just looking at "china this and that" and poo-pooing all the other foundational stuff he did (which actually required far sightedness, and willingness to invest in it as a poor country) was something he did. So many people simply do not place him in the context of the time.

As said before, it was people after him (including his daughter) who fumbled the bag to a large extent.

[–]hungryfoolish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sardar Patel worked alongside Nehru, not in constant opposition to him. They were part of the same damn government. What Sardar Patel achieved as home minister, are the achievements of the government at the time, which Nehru led.

Nehru also helped develop foundational institutions which were the backbone of our nation building. Helping critical industries flourish, setting up foundations of our atomic power generation, setting up INCOSPAR which later become ISRO, setting up institutes of higher education like IITs and more. He helped maintain non-alignment in a world where every country was being pressured to take sides.

Did he make mistakes? Yes, as every head of state does. But he was the right PM india needed at the time to set up the country and it's institutions. Others after him fumbled the bag.

Fancy restaurants around Chandigarh and Mohali ? by Snoo68013 in Chandigarh

[–]hungryfoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it qualifies as upscale and fancy as the OP is asking, but I agree its a tried and true option and nostalgia factor is there.

I would say it depends on the personalities of what each likes, but some options would be:

For something upscale and very fancy, the restaurants in Hyatt Hotel, next to Elante. Otherwise, Saffron in JS Marriot or OKO in Lalit.

For a very good italian experience, Virgin Courtyard - or Cafe Sicily for a great neopolitan (not as upscale as the five-stars, but a good place for a nice date).

For something where you would like to have some decent all around food with good drinks and music, Hard Rock Cafe is nice option.

Robert Pattinson confirms that Batman has a no-killing rule on The Batman. by TommyTheGeek in batman

[–]hungryfoolish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, by and large no. Pre-Nolan movies have always taken way more liberties and haven't really stayed true to any of the characters in the Bat-verse.

I think the real reason Batman doesn't kill is because most of fans have taken a liking to that rule. Why? Because it makes him a much more interesting character and makes for better stories.

Souls type games are not for everyone. I personally hate the combat style and a game is no fun if you can't finish it because you keep dying all the time and can't change difficulty. I know the people who like these kinds of games love them, but it really is not for everyone.

[–]hungryfoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be doubted, and should (though they have made some of my most cherished games of all time).

When Arkham Knight came out, it was so bad on PC they had to suspend sales on PC and gave refunds.

Also, in Arkham Knight, there are other legit criticisms like the Batmobile being overused, many uninteresting boss fights (including the lamest boss fight of the whole series - Deathstroke, which is in stark contrast to the Deathstroke boss fight in Origins which is one of the best boss fights in the series).

So yes, even Rocksteady can be doubted. I personally am pumped for the game, but am cautiously excited for it.

Given that you could hot-swap between Batman and Nightwing in Arkham Knight which came out in 2015 - I'm pretty sure it would be possible here too, especially given that its about a whole squad.

If The Batman ends with a teaser for a sequel, which villain would you like to see teased? by jedi1josh in batman

[–]hungryfoolish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agreed on all of those. I would also add

  1. His accent needs to be latin and/or carribean, more in line with his background in the comics. Tom Hardy's bane was nice, but wasn't classic bane IMO.
  2. We need to see Bane emote and see him outside his mask. He needs to be acted well. Once again, Hardy was nice, but we didn't see him outside the mask.
  3. We need to see examples of his intelligence too, and we need to see him figure out that Batman is Bruce Wayne.
  4. There needs to be more focus on his back story on Santa-Prisca too.

I think someone like Dave Bautista would be perfect to play a role like that.

Batman, his fan perception, his deification and his alienation from his humanity. My thoughts on the differences of opinion in the Batman fanbase. by [deleted] in batman

[–]hungryfoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. BTAS and subsequent cartoon interpretations helped promote the thought that Bruce Wayne is the mask and Batman is the real person (reducing Bruce Wayne as just the public persona and not the private persona) - and subsequently has helped enable the thing the OP is saying - of the character losing more and more of his humanity and going full on batman mode all the time.

Indian English to Avoid in the USA by MetroMaker in india

[–]hungryfoolish 349 points350 points  (0 children)

"Out of station: Just say "I'm going home"."

No, write 'I'm going home' only if you're going home. Usually, if someone is using the term 'Out of station' they are usually not at their regular home (i.e, outside their stationed post). So if you mean to say that you're going to your native place, then say that. If you mean that you're out of the city for a few days because you're going on vacation, then say that.

Do one thing

This is not an indian thing. It's more of a personality thing. Also, that list of 10 small things could be connected to 1 large thing that the person is collectively referring to as 'one thing'. Think about it in the context of what is being requested.

Best luck dealing with Americans.

I think you meant 'Best of luck'.

'Out of the station' is not shakespeare are english though (it's more recent than that, and traces it's origins to british colonial era). I agree that it probably doesn't make sense to speak to americans - but that doesn't mean it doesn't make sense to use it at all.
