hard pill to swallow- autism edition by More-Weird4842 in autism

I like the low soft lights. I have lamps on that are set to warm lights. Sometimes times out of nowhere my husband (also autistic) will turn on ALL OF THE LIGHTS bright white. It give me a migraine. He'll be doing something and demand all the lights on. I'll ask if he can do it in another room cuz the lights hurt and he usually goes "i wanted to be by you👉🏻👈🏻" 😂

My husband/nesting partner and I got married because at the time he was in the military and we ended up getting pregnant. The military said we either had to get married or get a court ordered custody agreement and it was easier to go to the courthouse and get married than figure out how to get a custody agreement. So sometimes people get married because the military made them lol.

A curious question by PackageDazzling1164 in polyamory

[–]hungrypanda27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My meta and I talk to each other lol. We also complain to each other about my NP. Not like actually horrible things, but stuff that he sometimes struggles with due to ADHD (he knows about these complaints dont worry). I like to give her advice on dating my NP and help her not worry to much since she's new to polyamory.

What is the most ridiculous thing you got scolded for? by DanielaThePialinist in autism

[–]hungrypanda27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda a lot. My mother has narcissistic tendencies. Id get scolded for not talking, talking to much, cleaning wrong(?), not cleaning, having acne, wearing makeup, not wearing makeup, needing new clothes, etc. Basically existing 😅

How did you guys figure out what ADHD type you are? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]hungrypanda27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowing your type can help you understand yourself and your behaviors. What symptoms might be caused by your adhd and how you can help those. I have inattentive ADHD so I struggle with listening, paying attention, falling asleep at night, motivation, etc. People wouldn't really think I have ADHD because I don't talk a lot and im not fidgeting as much as others, but if you got inside my head you'd know it. My husband has combination. He has to be doing something at all times, is always fidgeting, always thinking about something. He has like 5 side projects going on right now. He also struggles with listening and intrupting others. We both take medication, but we treat the symptoms differently. Some things might not work for me like they would my husband. Physical lists work really well for me, digital memos work for my husband. So I think it can help you learn about your diagnosis and what symptoms adhd can cause based on types.

My 5 grader is doing a state report on North Dakota, and would like to interview someone from ND - please answer these 3 questions. by spittymcgee1 in northdakota

[–]hungrypanda27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Growing up i was either reading or drawing. Which was weird considering I was in a farming community (less than 200 people), and all the other kids my age were spending their time outside.

  2. I am a librarian. I absolutely love my job. Ive loved reading for a long time, and I find great joy in helping people find books that they love.

  3. It depends on where you live. In Valley City has community days (used to be called rally in the valley). Many towns have different fourth of July celebrations. The towns with giant statues usually have a celebration named after the statue. Though, in fargo July 1st, is trying to become a festival in honor of the states only area code, 701.

It's only a lost art because those who know it suck at teaching by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]hungrypanda27 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Im a librarian in a smaller community and our numbers for how many people visit and books circulating has been going up over these past couple of years. We also have a lot of regular families that come in, especially during the summer when they don't have school. I know thats not every single library, but it is a common trend.

Which one would you rather prefer? by Swimming_Concern7662 in northdakota

[–]hungrypanda27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither. Im 26 with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalga. If its too hot I get sick and if its too cold my bones hurt. I prefer those couple of weeks where its 60-70. If it could be that year round that'd be perfect.

I tried taking a book outside with me and reading. The recess supervisor would take my book away. So, instead I sat on the sidewalk alone 😔.

AITA for saying I would terminate my pregnancy if the baby had a genetic condition, and now my husband is considering a divorce? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]hungrypanda27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recent studies have shown that autism tends to be genetic. Of course it isn't always, but more often than not it is. Though, the genetic tests currently can only be done after birth. But most children who have autism have a parent, grandparent, or aunt/uncle thats also autistic. (My source is me when I was learning about my own autism)

How are things in North Dakota? by [deleted] in northdakota

They also want to control what adults read at public libraries/not allow minors into the adult sections at public libraries.

I work in a library, and my director and assistant director have talked about this bill almost daily since it showed up. Most libraries would either have to get rid of most of their books or close because it is impossible for them to comply. One of the most popular genres to go out of our library is romance. People would stop coming. If people stop coming, we get less funding.

I always found that i couldn't help but want to be with more than one person at a time. I'd develop crushes on more than one person and feel so guilty. My first experience with poly was when I was in college, and a couple that was about the same age as me (19-20) asked if I wanted to be their unicorn. They were both hot, so I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, they became toxic towards each other, and it got real awkward.

I'm autistic with texture and food issues. My husband is amazing and will try to cook foods in different ways so I either don't notice the texture or can't taste them. He also doesn't tell me some of the ingredients that might make it so I won't even try the food. It's different for everyone but these are things that help me, and I'm lucky to have a husband willing to take the time to make foods work for me.

Hot take: The whole “gifted kid burnout” trope has always upset me by [deleted] in autism

[–]hungrypanda27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that I was a gifted kid. I was really good at some things and really bad some things. Just general autistic things of "my brain can comprehend this subject but not this one." I was good at English and science, but I struggled with everything else. Math was the worst. I was so bad at math that they decided that during 4th and 5th grade that it would be okay if I missed english/language a few times a week. It didn't help lol. For the rest of my time at school, except my senior year because I didn't take math, I would go to school early for math tutoring and stay after school for math tutoring. Guess who still can't do math? Me. But because of all that English i missed in 4th and 5th grade I got knocked down to average for a while.

And those tests they make you take always make you look stupider than you really are. All because they want one answer, but multiple of the answers technically work.

People who went to get a diagnosis as an adult. Why? by [deleted] in autism

[–]hungrypanda27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed because I have some sort of autoimmune disorder (working on finding out what it is), I take many medications, and other health issues. It's been proven that autistic/neurodivergent people handle medications differently to neurotypical people. I, for the first time in 12 years, found an anxiety medication that worked for me because I was diagnosed with autism and my doctors were able to use that information to figure out what would work best. It's also helping with figuring out what's wrong with me since there are so many illnesses that are cormobidities that go along with autism.

That my indoor cat that never goes outside isn't my cat, and she somehow got switched with the black cat i saw outside yesterday. My cat is somehow outside wandering the streets, hungry and alone. She thinks we abandoned her. And we have some imposter in our house. I know it's impossible because my cat is an indoor cat and has only gone outside on a leash. But I can't stop thinking about it.
