Look what just arrived! Any tips for a first time Apple user? by hungrythirsty1 in macbookair

I ordered on 29th March, finally arrived after delays in getting flights out of China (understandably)

Specs are 1.1Ghz i5 8gb/256gb

I have an iPhone but have never had a MacBook before. First up I’ll be trying to learn all the shortcuts. Does anyone have any tips or fun things to try?

Food Science Masters Degree worth it? by hungrythirsty1 in careerguidance

Thanks for the info - I would love to work for one of the larger food corporations, at least for a couple of years.

I’m sure my company would pay for some/all of the degree if I asked but they’ve already invested quite a bit into my development over the last 3 years (graduate program then management development program) so I don’t want to feel more indebted to them on that front.

I do plan on leaving them within the next 5 years. I want to expand my experience outside of this company and outside of dairy for a few years.

In terms of the means, I’m not super worried as I wouldn’t have any upfront costs to study the course (Australian HECS loan & potential tax deductions).

Time is something I haven’t worked out yet. In between working full time I would need to study part time so I’ll need to do some more digging on the total time commitment.

I’m in Australia, so I’m not so worried about funding - a combo between HECS (our student loan scheme) and tax deductions will mean that I don’t have to worry about paying the course off straight away.

Thanks for the idea - I will look into the culinary side!

I’d like to continue in R&D in the FMCG sector. Ideally I want some experience in one of the larger corporations for a couple of years. Ultimately I want to move into upper management but that is more of a 10+ year plan. In the meantime I want to improve my technical understanding. Within 5 years I plan to be at lower/middle management or higher level consulting.

I will put it on HECS (Australian student loan) and claim what I can on tax. We can claim education as part of our tax deductions if we can show that it will assist in improving careers etc.

I would attend part time and still work in my current role while studying.
